Worst Cooks in America

I keep seeing an Advertisement for this TV show over an over and the more I see it, I can't believe it...

In the advertisement, it's implied that two chefs are watching and commenting on the "worst cooks" in America as they compete.

By worst cooks, they seem to be implying people that don't know how to make PB& J sandwiches.

In the advertisement, one of the "cooks" is using a shredder to cut up a stick of butter. And later (maybe a different "cook" with cheese) forgot to take the paper off either the cheese or butter and the Chef taste the paper when they take a bite of the finished meal.

I mean, this can't be real... can it? Not knowing you have to take the paper off.

Then again, I've been surprised how many people can't at least cook for themselves. I'm probably a poor cook, but I can more than keep myself feed.

.....and if you were that bad why on earth would you want to be embarrassed on national television ?

Could it possibly be so that the 'winner' gets the 'chance' to be trained up on some idiot-proof cookery course (probably run by one of the Chef's judging ???) thus ensuring a second series ?

I assume money. They can probably give some 1k per episode and get a lot of people, but afford to give them 10k or more per episode but don't have to.

@sstronaut It's cheap tv.
One studio. One Cameraman. One Sound-guy. Two Chefs keen to promote a book that will earn them money and a never ending cast of idiots looking for five minutes of tv/media fame.

We've had entire SCHEDULES of this type of trash tv in the UK for years now.
@Picklebobble2 If it's the show I'm thinking of, the object is for the individuals to improve weekly under the tutelage of pro Chefs. So, a cook off show for bad cooks, with the last one standing the most improved. Unfortunately, if you're the first person given the boot...

I've seen the show, too. Looks like they deliberately scout for the most brain damaged contestants out there, and then try to make them function like normal cooks.
@4meAndyou Yep.
This show has been on tv for several seasons. It's actually kind of funny because the contestants are sooo bad at cooking. But by the end of the series, those who survive learn some skills and actually cook good meals.

When I was a hotel manager, I was training a new desk clerk on the closing procedures, which included preping the coffee for the morning crew. I didn’t give it a second thought when I asked him to prep the coffee, and was stunned two minutes later when I turned around just in time to watch him pour an entire cup of grounds into the water well.

Trust me, there really are cooks who don’t know any better.
