Felt old today . Tech had me beaten

Went to a n independent cafe in Oxford , one I have visited before. Found a table and waited
To be served .
Then I noticed a little s square sign on the table.
“ Please order and pay using the QR code “
I know what is is but have never used it before .
Embarrassed I left.
Need to install this 😉

There was an article in one of the Hospitality Trade bulletins recently - lots of the large chains are actually ditching this sort of tech and reverting to interaction with customers..... Sad to see that independents are abandoning the personal touch, devonman!

@devonman Was there no member of staff around to help you order? I sometimes plead ignorance and enlist help!

@ArtieKat No one seemed interested .

@devonman Competition in hospitality is so fierce at the moment - only the strong survive!

I've had that. Fortunately I had a code reader on my phone. That place (Japanese - I think it was a Wagamama) I went to in Coventry a few months back (you might have seen the post) worked on that basis. In the end it all went quite smoothly.

@supersnipe I just need to buy the
app .
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@devonman You might be able to get one FOC but will have to tolerate ads popping up and it asking you to purchase it to get it 'ad-free'.

@devonman You can either download a QR code reader on your phone or use your camera which will also read QR codes.

I'd have done the same thing. Not every use of technology is really needed. Grumbles.

Hope you found coffee somewhere else xx

@Lhayezee Yes, the pub next door . 👍

Don’t worry. Tomorrow it’ll be a different way to order and pay. Simply download an app, register with yet another username, yet another password, then find out that it doesn’t work with your current phone software. For that you’ll need your app username and password, then follow the two stage identification system, and then…
Oh it looks like your battery has run out. You’ll have to go home, charge your phone, then download an app and try to recover your forgotten username and password…
That’ll be interrupted because you’ve just got a call from a number you’ve never heard of, asking you if you’ve had an accident involving sausages in the last two years…

@Oneofthestormboys Sounds like a normal day for me …..😂

@devonman Makes you wonder how we ever managed to evolve doesn’t it? 😂

I've done that also. The world is changing. If you ask for a menu they will provide one
justanothername · 51-55, M
You use the camera on your phone to scan the QR code which will take you to their website. You then scroll through the menu, select your order and send it to the kitchen and pay for it at the same time. The food then comes to your table when it’s ready.

@justanothername I respect their business model , it’s is just something
I would never
never do . .
