The most absurd marketing idea. Coffee for never less than seven dollars.

Now even more expensive. I wonder how many people said decades ago, No one in their right mind is going to spend that amount of money for a large cup of coffee. It's just too ridiculous. Yet, the line of cars nearly surrounds our local Starbucks and no one questions the absurd dollar amount.

I tried starbucks exactly once. I went in, had no clue what anything was on the menu so I got a small cup of something I could almost pronounce. Pay $4 for a tiny cup of something that tasted gross. Never again. Lesson learned

People do often overspend on worthless junk. Of course "luxury" coffee, a certain $50 pillow (WTF?), expensive bottled water, cosmetics that are overpriced ten fold (Sephora), cable packages with umpteen million channels yet there is nothing good to watch, Chia pets, extended warranties...

In some cases people are just flat out duped, like cable. In others like Sephora or especially starbucks, they just want to feel like fancy rich people.

If I wanted to look and feel fancy and rich I would just dig a Starbucks cup out of the trash, wash it out best I could, and keep refilling it with gas station coffee.

Imagine all those fancy ritzy people driving high end Teslas saying in a snooty tone, "Oh I just love L'eggs, she is so elegant and fancy drinking Starbucks." as I drive by in my older Honda.
@CestManan Ironic how so many feel offended by the very idea yet, I still see the long line of cars. Suddenly I'm on the defensive for admitting ONCE I was purchased a cup of coffee from Starbucks. I might as well have said, I spent $40.00 bucks on a bland, tasteless Taco Bell. I would be laughed right off the internet. I admire so many who have the willingness to make it sound like a deeply submerged extravaganza into coffee fantasy land. I bet everyone of them has spent exactly the kind of money they are now making a pretense of eye- rolling, overindulgence. Like some drunken sailor on leave.

@CestManan I had Starbucks once. I was stuck in an airport due to cancelled connecting flights. After one sip of burnt swill, the cup went into the trash. That was bad enough. Now there are plenty of credible press reports of the company's aggressive anti-union activities? HELL NO.

Starbucks is rubbish.. However, American coffee overall was a shocking disappointment. Any place in Melbourne that opened trying to serve that crap would be closed in a couple of months. 😷
@Crazywaterspring So nice to hear another poster who supports "Chock full of nuts" that really did make me happy again. So thanks a lot bud! I sure needed that this afternoon.
@whowasthatmaskedman What a dreadful experience. I would have been writing a flurry of letters. Damn!

@Grateful4you Actually I used Starbucks as a barometer.. When I got desperate enough to want it, is was time to go home.. Here, McDonalds were forced to produce better coffee than Starbucks in the US, or the mothers would take their kids elsewhere for lunch..Not that McDonald has great coffee of course.😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
ROFLMFAO!!!! You PAY for that crap??????😷
@whowasthatmaskedman No Mr. Smarty pants, Sometimes I splurge on a can of a more expensive brand of canned coffee, never had so much I could easily spend a ten spot for a cup of a frothy, icy cold dessert kind of coffee, I'd druther spend my money on a Lawrys Prime Rib dinner. Not some damn expensive coffee.

That’s not marketing, that’s inflation. Yes, Starbucks is globally recognized but their coffee isn’t that great.

Starbucks is to coffee what McDonalds is to burgers. Mass produced convenience that appeals to a large market but Starbucks and McDonalds are not the only two outlets that do burgers or coffee and who can charge a premium for both.

@Grateful4you That’s corporate fast food America.

Would you like fries with that?
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Grateful4you If you want decent coffee find a local boutique coffee shop.

@justanothername Didn't McDonald's recently try to pretend they are a steak house because the shat out yet another version of the quarter pounder?

@ChipmunkErnie Candy coffee. I'm stealing that phrase.
@ChipmunkErnie Since I've known you so many years there is no reason to doubt everything you've said. I might suggest fairly gently, the kid does indeed sound just a little bit too indulged in. I know it sounds somewhat restrictive, and perhaps smacks a tiny bit of "Harsh" perhaps, (And I* mean this in the kindest way) perhaps it's now a bit timely to set a few realistic boundaries. A difficult step, really Ernie, at this time of life, he may feel much more intact, and emotionally sound knowing his exact space, walls and limitations.

How many have said that even longer about cigarettes
@Dacrowman Yes, I remember I will never pay that ridiculous price. I finally found my limit and no longer pay that kind of money. I know most others do. I just can't.
@Abstraction "Recreational" coffee. 😄

Isn't it fucking wild??? Crazy! I don't go to Starbucks much...only for a treat once in a while. I get a large coffee of my choice for two dollars or so at Tim's or Mcdonald's.
