Question about apple pie

So when we where having our apple pie, Grandma brought out a pack of cheddar cheese to put on the pie.

Joel, our oldest, and Grandma put some on their pie but no one else did. It just didn't seem right....

Is this a thing.....

Yes, it's a thing. In England, there used to be a custom of serving cheese with fruit, so when Americans starting making apple pie, it seemed a natural choice. But it IS an old English custom.

I was told that it was an old Cheshire custom to eat Cheshire cheese with apple pie.

@4meAndyou Still is a custom in the North of England to serve Wensleydale Cheese (mild-flavoured) with very rich fruit-cake.

And of course we have those old buffet staples, the grape or pineapple cube speared onto a cocktail-stick with a cube of cheese.

@4meAndyou I make fruit and cheese trays all the time for snacks but I don't eat them together.
