@Penny I make it as a loaf. Any muffin recipe can be made into loaf breads and any loaf bread can be made into muffins. I used a date-nut bread recipe last week to make muffins.
I think of all of them I am MOST fond of Orange Cranberry. At least, I used to love orange cranberry muffins, which are very much the same. Banana is the second runner up, and after that, Pumpkin bread.
@Gibbon The date-nut muffins I made were really good too. If you use enough dates in it, it has a sort of molasses type flavor due to the high iron content of the dates.
Pumpernickel bread is a dense, slightly sweet rye bread traditionally made with coarsely ground rye and a sourdough starter. It originates from Germany, particularly the Westphalia region, and is known for its dark color and rich flavor, achieved through a long baking process.
A local "old world" bakery had the best bread on earth. It did business for years as Fervere Bakery and a few years ago sold to Ibis Bakery where it's old recipes still live.
@jackjjackson I made a banana cake similar to banana bread but put some cinnamon and golden raisins in it and frosted it with cream cheese icing. Brought it to work because it was too tempting to have at home and they raved over how good that was and one worker asked if he could bring the rest home and I let him, told him to bring my pan back.
Mango bread is also good. Had it in hawaii. In the philippines i made one with star apples. Took forever to peal and seed the fricken things but that's what was available. Can even use canned fruit cocktail.
@DrWatson One year I was making banana bread for a church event, (two loaves), and I had adjusted my oven incorrectly and burned the edges. I had nothing else to bring, so I got out my large casserole pan, and broke up the banana bread into the pan, covered it with chocolate chips, and then made a custard, poured that on top, and baked it! It was absolutely awesome!!! People did mention that it would have been even better with whipped cream...but still...an accident that turned out wonderfully!
