In all honesty though...watermelon typically grows in the south. Always was. Every southener i know really likes melon. My people are from texas. In the summer, watermelon was always on the table during our visits. Sliced in half everyone given a spoon.
How it became a stereotypical black food goes over my head. But, so many things do...

@Carla I’m not sure how that became ours, either. My grandmother sometimes made what we now call "smoothies" with them, using her blender and ice, and they were very refreshing. Otherwise, I could take or leave the fruit. 😄

@bijouxbroussard it was, made by old smoke and it was a salty watermelon flavored whiskey. I never mix my whiskey but it was good over ice.
