Do much cooking with alcohol?

My friend Maegan does quite a bit. Beer battered this, soaked in red or white wine that. Cooking renders out the alcohol but leaves an interesting flavor.

I love cooking with sherry. I use it quite a bit. Dry fruit wines like cranberry and tart raspberry are fun, too. I also make custards and puddings with liqueurs, like Irish Cream and amaretto. Oh, and beer bread is awesome.

I've usually had about 6 by the time I start thinking about cooking. Yeah alcohol and food always go well together!

alcohol in cooking is such a waste of alcohol though

Lean your head over and inhale deep as it boils off then haha

nah I'd rather smoke weed or make weed brownies. You can't get rid of the weedy goodness.

I've seen people sink a whole bottle of wine while making dinner.. Does that count?
AlphaPuppy · 26-30, M
I like red wine for cooking, about the only thing its good for

We drink it mixed with cola sometimes too.

I just cant stand it.. I downed a bottle when I was a kid, never been so sick in my life.. Can't touch it now, rose and not too dry whites are ok, not my first choice though

I haven't yet, but I'd like to. I come across a lot of recipes that call for a bit of alcohol at times. I would like to try them.

My friend Maegan's food is pretty great. I would say try it.

does the alcohol quality affect taste?
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
Hm idk. Good question. I would imagine it does.
Any beer can go in chili. Dark beer goes in corned beef or the onion gravy for bangers and mash.
Wine goes in roast chicken or beef.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
That sounds delicious. Bangers are what?
Sausages essentially

No, for the most part I don't like the taste of it in food.
Sometimes, not a lot.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
So you consider it a good idea for certain recipes?
@DanielChristensen: Sure, it's just a flavor enhancement.

Maybe you should try it.
There are chicken dishes I prepare where I use dry vermouth. The actual alcohol does cook away, but it leaves a rich flavor. Most of the recipes are from my mother's side of the family, apparently it's a French tradition to cook with "spirits"...
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
The French know their cooking.
