We had egg nog.
I don't consider fruit cake to be a "must have" for the season, but I have bought some in the past. Not recently, though.
I think a lot of this has to do with what ethnic background we grow up in. Where I live now, people grew up with fruitcake. But that was not my family tradition at all.

My mother used to buy Christmas Stollen, which is a ring of bread-like cake, laced with diced candied fruits and covered with icing. THAT stuff was pretty nasty. She would also buy, at times, a "Yule Log" cake, which was sort of like a jelly roll, frosted to look like a log.
Ribbon candy was also one of her ancient holiday traditions...and that stuff is pretty nasty, too.
ONLY at Christmas time, would she set out big bowls of nuts still in their shells, with nutcrackers, and that was always a mess.

Well @LunarOrbit ruined eggnog for me by calling it pancake batter 🤢
@Ramrod I do like it but really shouldn't drink it anyway...so he did me a favor

We enjoyed both this year. We have a source for really good fruit cake.

Not at my house. But some people still like it. Ribbon candy

I had both this year. Friehoffer makes great fruitcake.

Nog.

I still celebrate throwing rocks at Uncle Al on Christmas morning even though he got drunk and was run over by a bus full of nuns long ago. It's the thought that counts!

Never a big fan of fruit cake.
Egg nog (non-alcohol) is a must.
I have tried several brands this season, each having their own unique flavor.

Egg nog and fruit cake are still popular in our home. So is carrot pudding and plum pudding.
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
Fruit cake still is but eggnog was never big here, possibly because it's summer.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
What does legit eggnog tastes like?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Casheyane Creamy.

I love the nog. I can eat fruitcake too 😛

that sounds like a recipe for trouble 🤢
Slice fruitcake thin and fry it crisp in real butter, then pour hot reduced egg nog over it, it makes for an awesome dessert.

@NativePortlander1970 I can’t stomach the artificial candied fruits that they put in fruitcake or the alcohol.
@cherokeepatti The alcohol itself evaporates at 176F, so it'll all be gone, leaving pure flavor.

@NativePortlander1970 The alcohol evaporates but the flavor doesn’t. I don’t like it.
