Do You Remember When A Lot Of People Had These?

I had one and filled it with pecans I had picked up. I also had a male Siamese cat who would take a pecan out of it and put it on the wood floor and bat it around like he was playing soccer or something. It would go under the sofa or stove in the kitchen. Then he’d go get another one and start up again. And would eventually empty the bowl. I just let him have them all, and would get a yard stick and get them out from under the stove and move the sofas and collet them and put them all back in the bowl.

My mother bought a lot of monkey pod wooden bowls, and used them for nuts and chips and almost everything. She had this one:

My parents always had a bowl of nuts during Christmas.

My dad passed a few months ago and we've been cleaning out his home. Just last week I found a lone nut crackers on the counter just like in your photo. I'm guessing my kid and nieces who were tasked with boxing up the kitchen utensils didn't know what it was. 😆

Consequently I was just thinking last week, where does one even purchase shelled nuts anymore. I can't recall seeing the big display where you buy them by weight at a grocery store in decades.

@Starcrossed I’ve seen them in Winco and Walmart this past month.

@Starcrossed I can relate to your comment!

We had that exact one! My Dad loved the mixed nuts. My Grandpa would eat the walnuts, and make little carved baskets out of the shells.

Yes!!!! I hated seeing this on the table at my aunt’s house cause you knew it was going to be a while before the pop and chips was coming out. 😂

We still have one, we never use it. It just sits in the drawer never being used.

My parents had one of those .

Atlotto · M
Yes...My Mom had that exact set.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Yes I do. My mom put one out every year at Christmas.
I remember making these in wood shop and us charging $25 apiece, we couldn't keep up with the demand, everyone wanted one, it was a fundraiser for our 7th grade class to see A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, the Broadway cast was touring in 1982.
Those were staples. Not a fan of the Brazil nuts.
