If you're ordering breakfast out somewhere

Do you have a go-to that you like to stick with because you're not going to make it at home? I'm talking about a sit down and be served kind of breakfast restaurant, not fast food.

Mine is corned beef hash.
meggie · F
We only have muesli for breakfast at home. So when I'm in a hotel or nice cafe I order a full english breakfast, minus black pudding.
meggie · F
@sree251 bacon
sree251 · 41-45, M
@meggie English bacon?
ArtieKat · M
@meggie I love black pudding - but it has to be crispy
WalksWith · 56-60, F
I'm no breakfast person, but if I go out to breakfast, I'd probably order, Rye toast, grapefruit half, soft boiled egg and hot tea...?

If they don't have a 1/2 grapefruit, that's okay, I'll order a juice instead. But Rye toast, is my go to!
ArtieKat · M
@WalksWith I love grapefruit but I'm not allowed it any more because it clashes with the statins I have to take. :-(
sree251 · 41-45, M
@ArtieKat What are you taking the statins for?
ArtieKat · M
@sree251 Not for the fun of it lol!
Musicman · 61-69, M
Yes I do! Sausage gravy. There is a local mom and pop restaurant that serves a plate of home fries covered in sausage gravy topped with two eggs any way you want them. It also comes with either a single pancake or toast. Your choice.

come2gether · 41-45, M
@Musicman that's quite the spread!
sree251 · 41-45, M
@come2gether You should see the spread of the guy who eats it.
Sevendays · M
Two eggs over hard, rye toast, crispy bacon, home fries and throw in a couple pancakes if I'm really hungry. (With maple syrup of course)
Sevendays · M
@come2gether yes, and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't matter if it is Canadian or NY, VT , NH ETC. It is all good.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@Sevendays Eggs over hard is defo not my thing though, have to have that runny yolk.
Sevendays · M
@come2gether that's what I try to avoid.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
There was a diner that we used to go to and they had breakfast specials. I liked to order two eggs over easy, hash browns and toast with that special. I also like to go to IHOP and get a waffle. But now gluten-free so I don’t go for breakfast anywhere.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@cherokeepatti You can just ask them to hold the bread, right? Or ask if they have gluten free options.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@come2gether Most don’t have gluten-free options. I don’t trust IHOP to not cross-contaminate after the last experience I had there. Don’t really trust diners to be strict with gluten-free. Seemed they had hired druggies to cook and work there. If I want a couple of eggs I can make that at home for about 50 cents and have some gluten-free bread to go with it.
Ontheroad · M
I seldom go out for breakfast anymore, but when I do, it's eggs in a basket and coffee.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Ontheroad It's to bad us older guys here on SW can't get together once a week for breakfast out and to spend the morning talking.
Ontheroad · M
@Musicman I doubt there is any place that could handle us and all the tall tales we'd be weaving🤣
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Ontheroad Lol!!! 😂😂😂😂 Definitely not! But, it would be fun. 🙂
Xanadu17 · 61-69, F
Omelette- I like several fillings which puts the price up in my local cafe …. I like mushrooms and tomatoes..
Kae20 · 56-60, FVIP
Noo ill likely order something im not going to do as stand like Eggs benedict , yum yum
Camelia · F
French toast, the savoury kind, with a cup of iced coffee.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@Camelia warm bread, cold beverage
Lilymoon · F
Sausages, eggs, home fries and toast with coffee
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
There is a Jewish deli near me that I LOVE. I always get the Bagel and Lox breakfast sandwich. I could seriously eat one every day (but I don't lol).
sree251 · 41-45, M
@DearAmbellina2113 Vegan? You must be skinny. I do think that it is best to avoid farming animals for food. It is quite cruel.Talk about protesting against genocide. Eating eggs causes the culling of male chicks because they are useless. Eating cheeses, butter, and milk products deny calves of their food.

So, your source of protein is lentils.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@sree251 I rarely eat dairy. Only once in a while on pizza or in enchiladas. I'm not perfect but I also realize that one vegan alone is not gonna end the animal industry.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@DearAmbellina2113 One walks alone on the path that is right. You are just outside the edge of that path because you are not perfect. If the cheese on the pizza or in the enchilada is human blood, it would repel you. It doesn't, and you indulge like a vampire once in a while.

I feast like Lord Dracula - all the time - on chicken, pork, lamb, and beef with as heavy a heart as yours. Can I eat like a vegan and be free of guilt? Absolutely. I am not a vampire. I am not addicted to human blood. I don't know why I am in this world of the walking dead.
steak n eggs every time 😋
come2gether · 41-45, M
@beermeplease Always a good choice!
Iwillwait · M
Egg whites/omelette w/spinach, mushroom, avocado, cilantro.

Toast w/peanut butter/jelly
Iwillwait · M
@come2gether today it was three small chocolate chip cookies.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@Iwillwait I'm no stranger to chocolate chip cookies in the morning!
Iwillwait · M
@come2gether That makes two of us or One of us. 🤔
Biscuits and gravy are my go to
Musicman · 61-69, M
@mindlessdrifter Yes! Yes! I love sausage gravy 😋😋😋😋😋
@Musicman Delicious stuff
Musicman · 61-69, M
@mindlessdrifter I usually have it weekly. 😋😋😋
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
French toast.
sree251 · 41-45, M
Corned beef hash is good. Would you order eggs to go with it?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@come2gether Did you grow up eating corned beef out of a can served by your mom?
come2gether · 41-45, M
@sree251 lol, yes! I won't eat that anymore, it has to be the real stuff now
come2gether · 41-45, M
@sree251 comes in that trapezoid can
exexec · 61-69, C
A western omelet. I don't make those at home. Otherwise, I go with two scrambled eggs, country cured ham, grits, toast, jelly, OJ, coffee
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Eggs over easy with avocado, home fries or hash browns and multi grain toast
French toast. It’s about the same everywhere.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@Colonelmustardseed 😋Yummy!
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I mean, any breakfast food really. I suck at not breaking over easy eggs and perfectly browning hashbrowns so I guess them.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed Sounds delicious. Hash brown with eggs over easy with a mug of coffee make my day. Never fail to order that when I stop for breakfast at a local diner on a road trip.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@sree251 it's like standard go to truckstop cafe fare, no?
Along with a fluffy stack of cakes 🤤

Gosh I might need to call out for some doordash here...
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed Truckstop cafe. That's my world. I love eating trucker breakfast food sitting at the counter sandwiched between two truckers. They are my kind of Americans. I don't break into conversation, though. I just eat in silence soaking in the ambience and that human energy including that of the waitress. Below is a video showing you what I mean. I am that ass from New York she was referring to.

Waffle House and Cracker Barrel and a few family owned local places
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@come2gether Not so much! I have GERD and IBS pretty bad. I avoid red meats and strong seasonings, but eat eggs, chicken (and occasionally other fowl like Turkey and duck), and fish/seafood but otherwise stick to a plant based diet.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@KunsanVeteran @KunsanVeteran sorry to hear that
Iwillwait · M
@KunsanVeteran I feel ya. I eat like a hospital would serve.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
Pancakes and syrup paired with a glass of milk would be my go-to for a breakfast meal at a restaurant.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@Sidewinder interesting, I don't think I know anybody personally in their late 30's or above that actually orders a glass of milk out. Personally for me, I hope I'm at a place I can get a mimosa, haha.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@come2gether I was going from a childhood memory.
I could go for an omelette.
@come2gether Cheese onions mushrooms and peppers.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@Spoiledbrat you load it up! well enjoy!
sree251 · 41-45, M
@come2gether
Personally with an omelette, I have to keep it low on fillings or it just gets too much like a flat fritatta, which I am not a fan of.
You want a french omellete, a little cheese with your favorite herb.
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
I typically get buttermilk pancakes why?! They're so indulgent it's like a special treat.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@lumberjackslam may as well indulge!
Azlotto · M
I would order dim sum.
come2gether · 41-45, M
@Azlotto Those places don't open until noon, lol
Azlotto · M
@come2gether All of them?
