Exactly what are "house wines"?

Restaurants that serve wines often sell "house wines"-wines that tend to be cheaper than name-brands and that are advertised as being directly linked with the restaurant itself.But are they?Does the establishment have a hand in making them,or are they just wines from outside wineries that they just put their name on?

Restaurants make deals with producers and/or distributors of wine for their "House Wines"
That is all....
Dependent upon the level of Establishment Quality, "House Wines" can be of wide variety of appeal and uniqueness.

It is not uncommon for Great restaurants to have a wonderful selection of house wines that aren't some mass-produced swill

Knew about the practice of 'house wines' but not to this level of detail. So I figure this relationship with producers and distributors gives restaurants the opportunity to showcase these wines? Thank you, did not know that.

There are dwarfs in the cellar, producing, 24 hours a day non stop!

Pro tip. Never ask for the 'House Dressing'. Don't get me started!

They buy them and have their name put on it, should be decent wine, it is in France anyway
no they are just the kind the House buys as their basic standard

Most restaurants aren't actually " fine dining establishments" sooooo its all baloney mostly.
Just some cheap wines picked by management to recommend if you are on a budget. They have deals with the winery to buy their wines.
They have nothing to do with the restaurant itself in 99.9% of cases.

@REMsleep So absolutely true! 😊🌷
