A bit of a rant on wasting food!

Please people, don't just throw perfectly good food away. Most especially when it's very expensive perfectly good food and still well within expiration dates!

Two and a half pounds of Ribeye steak at 11 US dollar a pound! Sell price 27.5! 😒

I don't care if you're rich or poor! Throwing away something like that is pure waste!
I always buy & make just enough for a meal. I always think of the Hunger Games & how people were starving..

@Peaches have you looked at the price of fish lately! 🤷‍♂️

I would love to have red snapper even once a month! I can't afford it even once a year! 😒
@DeWayfarer my personal favorite is orange roughly. Talk about expensive!

@DeWayfarer I realize that.😕 There's a super market named "Mega Food" where we buy Salmon and Tuna once in a while. The cheapest prices around, but I forget what it is per pound now?🤔When we buy the salmon we cut it in half and can share it for a couple of days. The tuna has 4 or 5 pieces in it.
We find some of that from the food pantry. Even expired food can still be good weeks later.

@Peaches no idea. I had to do three bags and by the time I could get back to the third the neighborhood cats had started to chow down on it! 😁

@Peaches one thing about feral cats, they know good food when they smell it!

Expiry dates are merely suggestions.

@DeWayfarer Meats are notorious for causing sickness because of improper storage or cooking. Luckily, meat gives off a bad smell, taste and colour when it spoils or starts to spoil. If you ignore those signs and just look at expiry dates, you will definitely get sick.
I’ve eaten alot of items past expiry dates without getting sick. Infact, I’ve never had food poisoning.
Expiry dates are a recent novelty(to increase consumption and sales)….prior to the last century, people actually had to think before they ate something. 🤓

@LunarOrbit I have ignored it many times. Nearly every time I got sick! 🤷‍♂️

Just my experience.

@DeWayfarer Sorry to hear that.

We rarely waste food over here!⭐😊

@Peaches plastic bag sealed food rinse it of in cool water for frozen plastic bag food!

Immediately spray with rubbing alcohol! Now most rubbing alcohol is around 60% rubbing alcohol. That's a bit low for my taste. I actually use 90% plus rubbing alcohol.

At that percentage it drys off quickly as well!

@DeWayfarer You're such a smart guy, ⭐ I've gotten some great information from you.😊💓

Waste not
Want not
That’s our motto
I agree with you 100%

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters I couldn't agree with you more! Heck the last company I worked for was creating methane for their trucks by recycling plant based materials!
@DeWayfarer on a personal level , I use our left over fruit/veg/greens/coffee/tea/paper for garden compost.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters my father did that back in the 80s! 😁

How do you evaluate food on money? I don't like your comparison. Food is food and any stock should not be wasted.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@TheOrionbeltseeker I don't. And don't know where you came up with that expression. The prices were on the packages along with the expiration dates.

The "perfectly good" refers to the expiration dates! The "expensive" to the prices which at 11 dollars a pound is totally expensive!.

Heck I have ordered the same thing and a whole meal at a restaurant for less.

I never waste food.i cook just enough
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Lilnonames it was wrapped among other still frozen items on top of a community trash bin. I couldn't use much of the food.

I did manage to get tilapia fish fillets. Around two pounds.
