@bijouxbroussard Ms. Bijoux, your ancestors were from Haiti..?
@eyeno Some of them, on my father’s side.

@bijouxbroussard long ago, met a woman from Haiti she was very proud, reserved and very nice.
Good you can remember your families heritage.👍
Can you still speak creole..?
@eyeno It’s a big deal in some wards in Louisiana, but my parents relocated to California long before I was born. We went back only to visit their families. There are not a lot of people who speak it in this part of the country. I remember enough of it from my childhood that I recognize it when I hear it. My father still speaks it at 90. I had neighbors a few years ago who were originally from the 6th Ward, Pop’s old neighborhood, and when he was visiting me, they addressed him in Creole, and he replied easily.

@bijouxbroussard as generations go on, we lose a lot of the old ways.
To bad my mom didnt teach me when I wanted to learn Japanese in my grade school age.
Tried taking classes through the years but just couldn't grasp the language, just to much going on during my young adult life and couldn't focus.
@eyeno Is your family Nisei ?
eyeno · M
@bijouxbroussard yes..... my family even back to my grandmothers days wouldn't talk of life before arriving in the U.S. , though I've asked nothing was said.
Maybe life was that bad back then for them.
