Cars. People throw their money away on something that depreciates hard instead of sticking with simple and reliable

@deadgerbil Warren Buffet has new cars on his lists of wastes of money

@deadgerbil @JimboSaturn there's a great article by george akerlof called 'market for lemons' that backs up your argument 👍

Those fancy Starbucks coffee drinks that are like $8 a drink. Having 1 or 2 of them a day, I just don’t get it.

@iamonfire696 I don’t even think anything at Starbucks tastes good
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@robingoodfellow I don’t know what their sizes mean lol. And yes I agree
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Jenny1234 there’s two things I have gotten there that I like. The lemon loaf and the mocha cookie crumble Frappuccino. I haven’t been there in a year though so it’s not often.

Well, £££ where I live, but same principle:
Bottled water.
Gadgets with "i" prefixing their brand-names.
Anything from the Mactuckywaycostalotta junk-food and coffee-bar chains.
"Rescreational" drugs - toxins and illegal anyway.
Nicotine - tobacco or vapour
Over-priced wines.
Costly but limited-range subscription TV services.
"Name" fashion clothes
Kitchen gadgets not needed and hardly ever used.
Second homes - though if you can afford one of those, you are probably over-paid anyway.
Thumping great, costly, rather aggressive builders' pick-ups when an ordinary hatchback saloon would be just as useful to you.
Concert etc. tickets re-sold at above their original face value - which is often high already.
New Cars? Others here list them but (if you can afford it) you need decide which is going to be more economical overall: a new car kept serviced for at least ten years, or two or three old cars needing a lot more repairs over the same time.

Beauty supplies. Creams, make up, anything that appeals to our vanity.
Also stupid normal things are more expensive than they should be like toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo etc..

@JimboSaturn anytime my sister comes to stay with me she has an assortment of about 87 different face creams and washes she brings along. She must have a thousand dollars in expensive youth rejuvenators on my sink. Her ritual of application takes over an hour every night.
All this to shed maybe 2 years off her face.

Private cars . . people spend eyewatering amounts on an item that may spend 95% of its life stationary and using up valuable public space.

@PoetryNEmotion Yes I never buy water. I do like booze though but you're right it's a lot of money.
Dining out I only consider a 50% waste because I would have to eat anyway.

@JimboSaturn Almost all bottled water isn't what people think it is! I don't drink. No need to. I have oxygen. HA.
It is too expensive. Do you cook? Are you a good cook? Do you like cooking? I do.

@PoetryNEmotion Well that's just my excuse for eating out lol. If igure eating out is twice as expense. I do cook and do all the cooking in my home. I would say I'm a pretty good cook.

Cars... new ones anyway and especially when they have a perfectly serviceable car already (or nearly) paid for.

Maryland steamed Blue Crabs. Especially remembering catching them by the bushel for free and so easy to spice and steam. Bay blue crabs from brackish water are the best.

"Pedigree" cats and dogs - with serious problems around some breeds of the latter.

@Darksideinthenight2 Amtrak's relatively decently priced for coach, their dining prices however are a bit gougy.
