Yes, I have a savings account. I probably should move at least some of that money over into stocks and such, as it's likely the interest I'm making is less than inflation, but I loath the stock market —legalized gambling controlled by thieves —and the thought of not being able to get at my money in an emergency terrifies me.

@DunningKruger You could try an index fund. They are usually simpler and cheaper to administer and you can usually sell at fairly short notice.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@ninalanyon Yes, I have some money in an index fund, but I haven't been able to pull the trigger on the bulk of it.

JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
Yes.

But the interest is peanuts. No different than storing it under the mattress.

I have a CD, though. That is much, much better. Of course then the bank lends it out (along with everybody's cash) with much higher interest!

But the best is my 401k. Stocks have soared the past few years. I still have to pay taxes on it all, though, when I retire. But had I instead put it in the bank I would have already had to pay taxes on it.

Yes. I have savings in what my bank laughably calls a high interest account and also money in mutual funds. I was reasonably well paid and we were not an extravagant couple so we were able to pay off our house and save quite a reasonable sum.

@ninalanyon that sounds good :)
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
Yes we have 2 for my kids and we also have a emergency savings account. Joel has a trust fund set up for his son.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I have a chequing and savings account where our money from our paycheceques goes in and expenses are paid. We also have some TFSAs (tax free savings accounts) that are mutal funds basically.
Boeing · 36-40
@JimboSaturn that sounds neat:)
YoMomma ·
Yeah but there’s less than 200$ in ours unlike someone i know who i heard earned 8k for just having his money in the bank 😒
Boeing · 36-40
@YoMomma it's all good, you always begin from somewhere..!
I am thinking to begin one, even if it is just the idea of it, even if I can manage to put 10€ per month in it..
YoMomma ·
@Boeing yeah it adds up if you keep adding to it ☺ i wish my husband would save more but he’s a liberal spender
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@YoMomma Set up the bank account so that it does it automatically.

I have a small savings account at the credit union, but it just sits there. All of my investments are in stocks, bonds, and other items.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
I have two. Regular savings and a money market account. One is basically an emergency fund the other to build a cushion.
ABCDEF7 · M
I have 5 saving bank accounts. I had 6, closed 1 last year.
Kiesel · 56-60, M

Yes, need some place to keep my Pennies. Lol
Musicman · 61-69, M
Yes my wife and I have a savings account. I like having an account with no debit card or anything attached to it. I like having a private account that is safe with no outside access to it.
