In the UK you were slippered, strapped or caned.

@NortiusMaximus Oh believe me I could tell when Dad was annoyed with me and he was about to give me a spanking , he sent me to fetch the slipper from the drawer and he was sat on his chair when I returned and I had to lower my trousers and bend over his knee !!

@smacked30D I don't remember ever having to fetch a slipper to be spanked. Whoever was spanking us fetched it while we were getting ready.

@abuck Dad was the strict disciplinarian in our house . Mum used to spank me with her hairbrush and she made me bend over the settee but it was Dad who, once he got over the slipper spanking stage of my life , introduced me to the cane and just like my headmaster did , made me bend me over the desk, but in the privacy of our back room he also lowered my trousers down to my ankles and he gave me six of the best across my pants !!

Believe me , they were his best too !

@NortiusMaximus So you must have been a naughty boy .Whenever Mum had to spank me she gave just as good a spanking as Dad ever did , she used her hairbrush on my bare bottom across her knee and boy did that sting !!

@smacked30D Mum usually used a plimsoll on my and my sisters' bare bottoms as we bent over a chair.

@Miles1970 That wasn't fair when I had been caned at school and I took the letter home advising my parents of my punishment and when Dad got home from work, he then took me straight upstairs to give me the slipper, over his knee , for being a naughty boy at school !!

@smacked30D My dad gave me a few smacks over his knee, if he found out I had misbehaved at school. I certainly didn’t complain about being in trouble at school to my parents, because I knew what it would mean.

@Miles1970 I could not get away with it, Dad had to sign the school letter and send it back ! Gosh did he give me another good hiding later that same day !
