In the UK you were slippered, strapped or caned.

Usually the cane was administered by the Headmaster, though in private schools, prefects might.
Always over trousers or knickers.

I was either caned over the kitchen table by Mum or slippered over Dad's knee ! Both on my bare bottom !!

@Daygrow Yes I became too heavy to fit over Mum's knee so if I had been a naughty boy, she had to tell me to bend me over the kitchen table to cane me . Dad still managed to put me over his knee and spank my bottom with his slipper.
