I know this is a fairly challenging solution, but it generally works..
1. Buy for an occasion that's already booked. Just one outfit. Give
yourself no choice on the night. You must wear the outfit you
bought... Or
2. You must wear whatever you buy as you leave the shop. The
only alternative is the date in your diary... Or
3. Put it back on the rail. Save money and wardrobe space.

Maybe next year is your year of the skirt?

Sometimes it's hard to pass up anything that may look cute on. Force of habit that is hard to break.

Well, just stop and think next time: will I wear this? Or will it join the legion of unworn clothes in my closet?

Yes i understand I wear jeans everyday and yet i have a wardrobe full of slacks.
