Of course not. It's more of how they're perceived by other people who may deem it unprofessional to have piercings. I would argue that one judging a co-worker who's doing an apt performance at their job just because they might have an "unprofessional" piercing is actually pretty close-minded and unprofessional within itself. But that's just the world we live in.

If it's excessive it might look weird but I do not believe it interferes with their ability to do the job.

Depends on how many piercings and where. It obviously doesn’t stop someone from being professional and doing their job well. In companies where the employee isn’t interacting with customers, there’s not even the problem of [b]perceived[/b] unprofessionalism.
