Older clothes

Anyone have clothes that they own and still wear that are older than you are? I have a winter cap that my mother knitted for my father before I was born that I still wear every winter.
I have a blue silk gown that is my mothers and its stunning ,she had it from the 90s ,i think maybe even before i was born or around that time

@PepsiColaP nice! Those are cool things to hang on to for the memories
@awhitedot yes definitely 😊

Not pieces of clothing but I still have a necklace and an afghan that belonged to my grandmother who died before I was born.
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@Ducky oh wow. Nice!
Not that I wear but I have a dress that my great grandmother made me when I was a little girl and my first pair of shoes. I don't know why I keep them though tbh. I guess I just loved my childhood and miss my fam. I try not not to keep clothes older than a few years but I used to have some work things that I finally let go of. They were like 15 years old.

@Spoiledbrat definitely hang on to the dress and shoes. The older you get the more you appreciate such things
That's pretty cool

I have a blanket my mom crocheted when she found out she was pregnant with me. I have a heart neckace with little black stones she wore at that time also I wear occasionally
@awhitedot memories are precious
My mom also crocheted an afghan for each of my sisters and I and out children right before she passed away. She finished mine just days. I keep it tucked away safe. Want to keep it safe forever
@Bexsy oh, damn. I obviously need more coffee before I try typing anything again
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@Bexsy it made sense. 😁. Yeah, the love that goes into those kind of things is special and have so much meaning. Im actually wearing the hat now and smiling about it.
Not with my person, but there are some handmade sarees of my mom, which were before I was born.

@Vivaci oh nice! Is it something you would still wear?
@awhitedot It’s like delicate….imagine a pure gold threaded saree….so probably not.
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@Vivaci oh wow. Sounds like something you put on display. Very cool.

Yes - I have two Qipao (Cheongsams) that date from the 1920’s that I occasionally wear on special occasions 🙂🐼🥢
I LOVE vintage clothes 🤗

I have a 1950's elegant silk nighty and dressing gown that looks like its straight out of a Fred Astaire and Gingers Rogers movie.
A vintage corset.
A pair of Flapper shoes from the 1930's-ish.
And one or two other classic pieces from the 40's/50's.

Oh, and a fox fur stole ...undated.
And a pair of kid skin gloves my mum gave me.

If i had my way, half my wardrobe would be older than me😅
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@OogieBoogie I like the way you think and couldn’t agree more. Vintage and antique clothes are difficult to find around here.
@awhitedot same.
You really need to scour those sorts of shops regularly.

And....it can get addictive .
Im never gonna show anyone my wardrobe ....its embarrassing , 5 things on each hanger crammed in so hard its like an Olympic sport getting something out😂
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@OogieBoogie hahaha!! I love it. You can just show us one piece at a time. 😁.

I have a sheer black shirt from my mother which I love and wear a lot and there are some of her coats and dresses from the 90's too and purses and scarves. Until some years ago she had her shoes from her wedding but they were in a box somewhere and got mould but I'd want to try them hahah
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@HannibalAteMeOut a little water and bleach will fix them! Go for it!
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@awhitedot too late, they're gone but I'm sure my mum would have tried saving them hahaha
malizz · 70-79, M
Father's dressing gown.
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@malizz very cool.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
I do. I have a very old vest that was my great grandfathers, and a sweater my grandmother knit for my grandfather. I wear them both on occasion. The vest is probably from the 1920s or 30s.
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@Harmonium1923 mine isn’t quite that old but there is something about homemade things from a family member that makes it even more special
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I have an adorable thin chain belt that my mother owned before I was born in the late sixties. I love it and I always get complimented on it. It never seems to go out of style
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@Jenny1234 good taste never goes out of style. That sounds like a very cool piece.
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
All my clothes get holes in them because of the moths around here.. Everything I bought 2 years ago is already ruined..
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@AuRevoir ouch!! That’s crazy
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
@awhitedot my best strategy would be to buy so many clothes that I don’t ever wear the same thing twice during summer.. 🤔 and keep the dirty clothes sealed away until the bugs die off..
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Just a blanket. It's getting a bit threadbare. I have been sleeping under it for 30 years. The company that made it closed up 60 years ago.
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@Thevy29 still keeping you warm at night. I love it
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
The oldest clothes I have is from high School. I do have a stuff bear and blanket that is over 20 year's old
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@smileylovesgaming I’m still waiting on some of mine to come back in style hopefully. 😂
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
Older than me? No. I have my parents clothes that are older than me but I don’t wear them…
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@NiftyWhite to be fair the hat was a hand-me-down. I still wear it though.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Not anymore, I used to have some of my Dad's old jackets.
awhitedot · 46-50, M
@JimboSaturn I have some of my dads old military jackets. I forgot about those.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@awhitedot Oh that would be cool!
I kept a couple of items of my dads after he passed away and I treasure those.
