We have always been honest with our kids about Santa. They know we get their gifts. If they want to add some make-believe for fun, we are ok with it. We do the same with the tooth fairy, Easter bunny, etc.
We also told them not to tell other kids. We may not do the whole Santa thing but respect that other families do. We watch movies and read stories with Santa. It hasn't taken away from their enjoyment of Christmas.

Do your kids have any less fun than the ones who do believe? @midnightrose

@Dom987654321 I don't think so, we do a lot of fun things this time of year. Minus their Christmas wish list being addressed to Santa, they participate in most of the same things other kids do. They take pictures with Santa, went on a polar express ride, and other Christmas related activities that often feature Santa.

There's a certain magic to believing in Santa Claus. Believing in a kind, grandfatherly man creating toys in a magical kingdom in the North Pole.
The trip to sit on Santa's lap, the excited anticipation of his coming during the night, the thrill of waking up on Christmas morning to the toys. Only a child can believe in that kind of magic. But yes Christmas would still be fun without Santa just a lot less magical.

When I was five years old it was absolutely magical. I believed...with all my heart. The lights, the frost spiraling up the glass in the windows, the snow on the ground, trying to figure out how Santa was going to get down our chimney, setting out the milk and cookies....it was a time in my life when magic was real.

@SW-User parents are weird. There is no good reason to lie to kids about Santa clause. I think most people just enjoy lying to kids.
