Everything from the past is relevant. Someone like Richard Dawkins now gets less relevant every year. And that's yet another fact

@val70 Richard Dawkins is the most influential advocate of Darwinism in our era, applying classical evolutionary theory to a modern understanding of genetics. The extension of his conclusions into anti-religious polemic is less convincing or necessary, I would agree.

@SunshineGirl “No, faith, not a jot, but to follow him thither with modesty enough, and likelihood to lead it; as thus: Alexander died, Alexander was buried, Alexander returneth to dust; the dust is earth; of earth we make loam; and why of that loam whereto he was converted might they not stop a beer barrel? Imperious Caesar, dead and turned to clay, might stop a hold to keep the wind away. O, that that earth which kept the world in awe Should patch a wall t’expel the winter’s flaw!”

@val70 The empire of reason forged by Darwin and Dawkins will in my opinion far outlive the ancient empires of violent conquest.

@Thinkerbell Yes, true. And what about this: "Out out brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player. That struts and frets his hour upon the stage. And then is heard no more. It is a tale. Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

"And be these juggling fiends* no more believed,
That palter with us in a double sense..."
* politicians...? 🤔

@Thinkerbell Then yield thee, coward,
And live to be the show and gaze o' th' time.
We’ll have thee, as our rarer monsters are,
Painted on a pole, and underwrit,
“Here may you see the tyrant.”
And live to be the show and gaze o' th' time.
We’ll have thee, as our rarer monsters are,
Painted on a pole, and underwrit,
“Here may you see the tyrant.”

Though Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane,
And thou opposed, be of no woman born,
Yet will I try the last. Before my body
I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff,
And damn'd be him that first cries, 'Hold, enough!'

@Thinkerbell Hail, king! For so thou art. Behold where stands The usurper’s cursèd head. The time is free. I see thee compassed with thy kingdom’s pearl, That speak my salutation in their minds, Whose voices I desire aloud with mine. Hail, King of Scotland!
