Do you believe there is such a thing as adult children committing parental abuse?

We always address child abuse, but abuse of parents by adult children seems like a taboo subject in our society.

Yes I suspected my brother hurt my mom under his lack of care towards her. Id visit from the other side of the state and see her house was falling apart and saw him talk to her a little bit too rough.
Authorities stepped in and said there wasn't anything going on that was wrong. But I know there was.
Blondily · F
@Justmeraeagain I agree they said she was well cared for even tho the place looked like a cyclone had hit it, cobwebs, dirty, etc
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Blondily unfortunately ,it's that way for children here too, in Michigan ,
I think we're one of the worst states for welfare of people.
I know What Child is living in filth right now they won't do nothing about it.

@Justmeraeagain Its discusting what people get away with. Not even a slap on the hand anymore.

Truth. Yes it’s been known to happen and the parents have every right to kick them out if they do imho because if they don’t then their own health suffers and or they enable their kids toxic behaviour so the understanding of personal boundaries is very important for everyone all round and for future relationships their badly behaved son or daughter will be involved in that includes friendships

@Justmeraeagain 🤔i think there will be such abuse and no it cannot just be simply swept under the carpet as you are right any abuse of others is wrong in any format . i think maybe if you look after an elderly parent that maybe one area that could trigger abuse especially if you find coping with them on a daily fashion difficult
Aysel · F
Yes, and even worse, there have been many cases of them killing their parents. I see it frequently on true crime TV; I once saw one in which a teenage girl persuaded her boyfriend to kill her mother. The mother believed the boyfriend was a negative influence on her daughter, so she wanted her daughter to stop seeing him.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Aysel I think I saw an interview by Pierce Morgan,?
Aysel · F
@Justmeraeagain Oh, that's a different girl, and she's American, I believe. I caught a sneak peek of that interview some time ago.

In addition to killing her mother, they also killed her younger sister, which I should have mentioned. I'll provide you the story's link.

Absolutely! And yes, oftentimes kept quiet because of misplaced shame and embarrassment. Same kinda thing with men being abused by women. Very sad all around.

@OlderSometimesWiser
It is,for certain.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
It happens, sadly . The term I have heard used is "elder abuse". It's not just something that happens in nursing homes
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@DrWatson
It doesn't just happen to the elderly , I don't think.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Oh it happens. I know my wife was involved in a case once.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@OldBrit I'm sorry for that
oldgrumpbear · 70-79, M
And it's nothing new. In 1923 Charlie Pool wrote the song, "Old and Only In the Way," which makes reference to adult children hitting their elderly parents.

Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Shybutwilling2bfriends I am so glad they are
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Most definitely. I've seen it. Physical and mental while they rob their account.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Livingwell yes, and those are easy to prosecute if there is evidence ,but verbal I don't know if people take that seriously enough
I have seen it. So very sad either way.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@MarbleMarvel Yes,it is
exexec · 70-79, C
Yes. I have seen several cases.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@exexec I honestly think the verbal is the hardest to prove and therefore the most easy one to dismiss.
The physical is horrendous as and sometimes it goes on without people knowing, but I honestly think they eventually get caught ,unfortunately, sometimes it's too late.
NaturalBeautyQueen · 41-45, F
Yes, it does happen sadly.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
RubySoo · 56-60, F

Sylphrena · 31-35
Yes, I've heard of some cases of it. There are some really sick people out there.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Sylphrena There are
Yep, sadly, there is.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@YourMomsSecretCrush
I think it's soul crushing for the parents involved and a lot of judgment from outsiders.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
It’s absolutely a thing.
You BET there is.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
No doubt. Especially once parents get older, particularly those with money.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@BizSuitStacy Unless it's just about power not money
Of course there is, sadly. 😞
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard
Yes,it's a horrible situation.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
Yes there is. It definitely happens. Especially as parents get older and look to their children for care.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Musicman
Both my children won't look after us,one is special needs, the other is mentally ill.
Tumbleweed · F
Absolutely. It's disgusting
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Tumbleweed It's really upsetting
Tumbleweed · F
