Don't you hate it when something expensive is on sale and you still can't afford to buy it?

ie. I am trying to get a good chest of drawers for my daughter as a birthday present (but she really needs one anyway).

Some of the ones I've been looking at priced normally around A$1000 to $1200 have been 'on sale' for about $500 off, but I still can't afford them as it doesn't line up with my pay cycle! So I'll have to pay full price once I get paid.

Frustrating but that's the reality of family life when other things are more important to be paid and buying things for your kids has to be pushed down the list.

Thrift stores are my favorite, almost all the furniture in my house is thrifted. A chest of drawers is a common thing to find second hand in good condition. Maybe a little tough as a birthday present. I'd give her something smaller like a game or something on her actual birthday with the caveat that you'll search together for the chest of drawers and fix it up together if needed.
@Fallflower 👍🏼 Love the Thrift store.

I hate it I have money for shopping, but when I get to the stores I don't see anything I like. It's like the wrong season of the year, trends that are boring to me, or whatever.

Then I go another time for something basic like a common household consumable or with a friend and I have no money for shopping, but I see everything that fits what I like and I'm just overwhelmed with what looks to me like a store that went into business just for me and only me. Still, no money to get anything.

From your post though I see that as being how it costs more to live when you have less to spend. Things like higher rates of interest and situations like yours where you can't take advantage of the deal when you don't have enough funding right then when the offer is still going.

Perhaps one of these places might be willing to let you have a payment plan and still let you have at least some discount? Maybe it would be worth asking? I don't know. Just a thought.
Thanks to the voters in my country, everyone is without a community, segregated by money and social caste, overworked and online a lot!
It's a fatal condition! So, no worries.

How olds your daughter?

That’s like buying the wife a hoover for Christmas lol 😂

Buy a second hand one and do it up.

Is there no "lay away?"
Just go to a thrift store.
