Did your Mom or Dad ever talk baby talk to you when you were little? And do you find yourself compulsively repeating the same word or phrase?

My mother once told me that as a toddler, I followed her around incessantly, so that often, she would nearly trip over me. She used to say to me, "Watchie- Watchie!"

And now, I have a cat that loves to get right under my feet, and out from the dusty archives inside my brain...what has appeared?

"Watchie-Watchie!"

What word or phrase that your Mom or Dad used, in baby talk, do you find yourself helplessly repeating?

🤣🤣🤣

I find myself saying "Aye Yai Yai" more often than I thought. That's a Spanish phrase simply said to convey disappointment.

Mine didn’t speak baby talk nor did I….but there were definitely some phrases which have been carried along.

“Keep looking like that and your face will freeze that way!”

or another favourite,

“Were you born in a barn? Close the door!”

@ImpeccablyImperfect Yes, I used to hear those, too...the same ones...🤣🤣🤣

No, no baby talk was ever used in my parents' home by either of them. But when you fell or got hurt somehow, you always got looked at and told you're not dying so get or go do this or that. Compassion was not used at all. I used compassion with my kids, but not others.

@WillaKissing I was always told, "Quit whining!" Or..."Why don't you CRY about it?" 🤣🤣🤣 The baby talk stopped when I turned four. 😉

@4meAndyou I was told if you want to cry or whine about something then Let me give you a reason to cry and whine.
4meAndyou · F
@WillaKissing That, too. "I'll GIVE you something to cry about." 🤣🤣🤣 Ah, the good old days...🤣🤣🤣
I'm always watchie-watchie-ing for your posts 🤣
@4meAndyou no need to worry...I'm not a toe licker.

@BizSuitStacy That was a super disgusting toe licking image, wasn't it? 🤣🤣🤣
@4meAndyou that was absolutely foul 😖
Nah, they weren’t like that.

when i was a baby, i am sure.. past that i cant imagine it. My father certainly not. He has always been very mature with me

My grandma use to say "no doie " instead of just no, and I picked that up. Not exactly baby talk, but still.
