Life with a 7yo….

My husband had to break the door of our bathroom down because our 7yo locked herself in there so she didn’t have to get out the bath and go to bed. She ignored us yelling for her to open it and when we got in there she was laying in the bath with her ears under water and looked like butter wouldn’t melt

Like kid do you really think this is going to go well for you?!? lol We don’t really believe that you don’t hear us yelling at all because your ears are in the water

Crazy what kids do to get 5 more minutes in a cold, gross bath she’d been sat in for almost 40 minutes already

Doesn’t the bathroom doorknob have a little hole in it that you can stick a slim nail or ice pick through and unlock it. Ours does and I believe also the apartments did too. It’s easy for little kids to lock those doors.
seana · 26-30, F
@cherokeepatti it was a slide across lock on the inside only which we shouldn’t have had with kids in the house but we just never got round to changing it. Our fault

Lesson learned we will have a different lock on the new door. I just thought I had got it into her head that locking the door is not allowed… guess not!!!

@seana Had a neighbor who’s little girl (4 years old) shut the bathroom door too hard and it locked and she panicked and had a little fit till they got it open.
seana · 26-30, F
@cherokeepatti aww poor baby. My 4yo would freak out too
My parents used a knitting needle if our bathroom door got locked. No locks were used in our home. I do not believe in them inside. A closed door meand knock first. Wait to enter. Your kid needs some rules. And some simple discipline. Like no tv for one night. No video games.
seana · 26-30, F
@PoetryNEmotion yeah the new lock will be easy to open from the outside. We don’t have them on any other doors. Her baths will be 10-15 minutes same as her little sister, no more staying in there longer for fun until we trust her again. My husband is a carpenter and will build a new door, and she will have to help him but not with any fun parts.

A 7 yo that likes bathing that much? You have a miracle baby
seana · 26-30, F
@SW-User She loves the bath. If she’s hyperactive I just run a bath and she chills out in there for like an hour lol

But it sucks when its past bedtime and she won’t freaking get out!!
the water may have been cool but her bottom would have been hot if she was mine
Adogslife · 61-69, M
That sucks. It’s certainly a memorable moment though for when she’s older.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
I don't get it.
seana · 26-30, F
@assemblingaknob me neither tbh
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@SW-User ahhh I had to Google that. Makes sense. Makes sense.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@seana we cannot get into their tiny heads.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
After her bottom warming, make sure the lock is disabled.
RedBaron · M
You’re under 25 and have a 7yo kid? Were you even of legal age when she was conceived?

@RedBaron Take your personality disorder somewhere else

@SW-User That’s a weird comment to make about a stranger.

I keep a little screwdriver above the doors just for that case. 😂. Beats having to break the door in.
JustEd · 41-45, M
@seana yeah. That’s scary. Have had to use the tool a few times but never when they were in the tub. Mine just likes to pout in his room after locking it
seana · 26-30, F
@JustEd Ohhhh locks on bedrooms is bound to lead to that. They love to be dramatic… mine has tried barricading her door lol
JustEd · 41-45, M
@seana 😂. Mine too. The youngest anyways. He definitely has a dramatic flair along with a temper.
DaveE54 · 56-60, MVIP
Make sure when she starts getting pocket money you deduct an amount every week until she pays for a new door 😉
seana · 26-30, F
@DaveE54 she’s helping my husband build a new door, he’s a carpenter and will make sure she does all the boring bits lol. Otherwise she will want us to break the door down again if building a new one is fun
DaveE54 · 56-60, MVIP
@seana aww that’s good
That's why we changed the locks of our rooms so that they can all be opened from the outside if necessary
seana · 26-30, F
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters We will put one like that on the new door. No other doors have locks so we should be good then until the kids come up with something else we havent thought to safeguard against lol
Convivial · 26-30, F
Normally there's a slot in the outer handle you can use a screwdriver to unlock the door
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
She having a hard time with new baby?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
As inconvenient as it is for adults perhaps have no locks on kiddo doors and bathrooms until the babies are into their older years? We had to do that with our bathroom after a couple scary door lock incidents.
seana · 26-30, F
@Starcrossed I don’t think it’s baby related, she is just impulsive and she’s been in a phase of ignoring in the hope we will leave her be to do what she wants lol. Yes it’s our fault, we should have removed the lock but I thought she had got the message of me constantly saying locking the door isnt allowed. My bad. My husband is building a new door and he will get a different lock that’s easy to open from the outside.
WanderlustCat · 36-40, M
My 7 yo would stay in the bath all day too if i let her.
seana · 26-30, F
@WanderlustCat I’m not sure what the obsession is its just cold and uncomfortable if you ask me lol
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Why would u have a lock on the bathroom door
seana · 26-30, F
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
Too Funny indeed
Not from your Perspective..lol
seana · 26-30, F
@TheDisciplinarian not super convenient but my husband is a carpenter and he will make us a new door. All’s well that ends well lol
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Wait til she's 16. Kids are most difficult around that age. 🙂
seana · 26-30, F
@assemblingaknob You want a 4yo bestie?? lol
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@seana no what I mean is.....kids are gonna be difficult all their lives :D yay
Chickie · F
@Zonuss you're exaggerating
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
I've had to climb through the bathroom window,to unlock the bathroom door before!
