why do some women think its ok to put their careers before their children

my niece pratically doesnt even know who her mother is because she is away in the navy. my brother in law is pratically a single dad
BlueVeins · 22-25
Almost nobody would question this if it were the dude in the navy lol, parents can have careers it's fine.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BlueVeins well seeing we are pacifist that wouldnt happend with my brother in law but maybe

Why do some men think it's okay to put their careers before their children?
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BigAssLeech i am a teacher but i still wouldnt put my job before my children
BigAssLeech · 31-35, M
@Mountainlady16 Yeah, don't think that has anything to do with whether or not you're a man or a woman tho. Some people choose their careers over their children and it kinda sucks, but it sucks no matter which parent it is
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BigAssLeech i guess so and this was her plans since she before she started high school but just crazy to me. since she gave up custody to my brother in law she barely sees her daughter

I was in the military when my children were born and got out when my youngest was 6 years old. My wife is a nurse, we usually worked different shifts to spend more time with kids and save money on daycare. I did often deploy for months at a time, once when my daughter was very small, she didn't remember me when I came back home, we had to get a sitter when the wife left for work for a couple weeks till she got used to me being back in the house. Today, that daughter is a nurse and works in the same facility as my wife, my kids are pretty well adjusted and are productive members of society. If your niece doesn't know her mother, there is more distancing than just a few deployments.

@Mountainlady16 Well, divorce and giving up custody throws a different light on it, she didn't want a daughter and has moved on with her life. It is really too bad for the child but if her mother doesn't want a mother daughter relationship, it is going to be rough.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Roadsterrider well they were never actually together it was more like a friends with benefits relationship and she got pregnant. but yes she gave up custody and does see her when she comes home and hes taken their daughter to see her a few times but she sees her mom maybe a half dozen times a year
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Roadsterrider his gf who is my stepsister is more a mom to his daughter than her mother
Men do it all the time. What is wrong with your sister being in the navy? Consider what is wrong with your perspective.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@PoetryNEmotion shes not my sister shes my brother in laws baby momma a sister of mine wouldnt take motherhood so lightly
@Mountainlady16 Perhaps you should have added more details to you original posting like you did in you responses to others below. Focus on being there for your niece. You cannot change her mom. Have a good day.

And yet he married her and started a family with her, knowing he was going to be it. What is different between that and when a man gets deployed and leaves his wife and children at home alone? Your brother in law knew what he was getting into.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@TexChik he does and so does our entire family. they live with me and my husband and our kids
TexChik · F
@Mountainlady16 That is amazing. You guys are so kind.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@TexChik family is important to us and we help each other out. in a few years him and his gf whose is my oldest stepsister will marry.
It is nice if one person can stay home with the children and keep house. I used to work but I had an easy job and then I worked 32 hours a week. I got off in time to pick my son up from school. It was nice. That was the best job I ever had.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Spoiledbrat my job is like that least the one ill have a new job in the fall but im teaching a half day class since im teaching toddlers by the time my kids get out of school ill be ready to go home im sure most days
iamelijah · 26-30, M
Tough call. She has to provide financial support for her kids and navy is her main career.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
I don’t see how that’s different from any other military family 🤷‍♂️
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@Zaphod42 except that my niece lives here at home wiht us not on base cause she gave up custody of her to my brother in law
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Why is that okay for any man?
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Mountainlady16 Not everyone can be with their family. You are saying she shouldn’t be in the Navy because she had a kid.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@iamonfire696 im saying that she shouldnt be a mom that has seen her daughter a dozen times in her 2 and a half years
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Mountainlady16 Well it’s too late for that though. She had her, you just need to be there for your niece.
1860 called. They want you back.
