It's on the same order of men liking men or women liking women. It's all a personality disorder. And if you find out what you want to know - what is disowning them going to do for it? They need treatment and to stay away from parks, schools, or playgrounds. The latest one we had in this category lived right across the side street where he was a substitute gym teacher. He would take the kids to his apartment (mostly boys) after school and end up by spanking them. This went on for several years until one child spilled the beans to another kids' parents.

@MaryJanine pedophilia is NOT in the same category as homosexuality. I'm a sexual abuse survivor, I know how pedophiles play the system
AkAtSUki · F
@MaryJanine i do think that both are disorders. It's a mental and spiritual issue. I am also a sexual abuse survivor.
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
@Herzigoner More power to you. But that is not my definition - I took the report out of the local daily paper and that was the words and definition they used.

BlueVeins · 22-25
I would disown a relative if I found out they had victimized a child, either through consumption of child pornography or actual molestation. I would not disown a relative if he/she realized they had this attraction to children and therefore sought psychological help, and didn't hurt anyone.

I have absolutely nothing to corroborate this theory. But my opinion is that there may be several types of paedophile.

And for one type of paedophile in particular some of it appears to be centred on self-loathing greed and envy.

They despise themselves - for reasons that may or may not have anything to do with paedophilia. And when they see the innocence of a child they become envious and want to possess that innocence themselves, in the belief that the child's innocence would somehow make them a better person.

It doesn't of course. But I think that's the way some of them think. It's the only explanation I know of that ties in with their often stated claim to admire/love the innocence of children.

AkAtSUki · F
@ThePerfectUsername that was a very thorough explanation. Thanks for your input Sir! 👏
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
You're welcome. I know their must be other reasons/explanations beside that one but I have little comprehension of what they might be. @AkAtSUki

I keep my children away from as much as my family as possible as much as possible because there is sexual abuse. I know who in the previous generation but I don't know who is perpetrators in my generation and I don't want to risk my children finding out.

It's sad that my children do not have alot of cousins they see like I did but I live with the effects of sexual abuse so I see not having family around alot as a price worth paying to avoid the devastating effects child abuse has on your life.

Call the feds and disown.
If they were practicing their perversion and I knew it - I would report it to everybody I could think of and sever ties until they got serious help.
Herzigoner · 36-40, F
I've already done that. Unfortunately most of my family has defended my dad ever since. I'm over it and really don't need them in my life
AkAtSUki · F
@Herzigoner it is what it is. I don't blame u for keeping distance. All we can do is hope that he doesn't harm others. U are not obligated to be around those who hurt u or those who support the one who hurt u.

Absolutely...
I disowned a friend because her brother is one.
She still had him involved in her life and I found the whole thing very unacceptable.
Maximusmax · M
Yes. Without hesitation
curiosi · 61-69, F
Absolutely!!
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I would turn him in myself.
SW-User
Yes 🤢 and by law you’re required to let people know who are also related especially those with kids.
Success · 26-30, F
It truly depends. If they just like the look of children no problem. If they fondle children big problem.
helenS · 36-40, F
No. We would never disown a family member.
SW-User
Poppies · 61-69, F
I suppose it would depend on exactly what they did. For example, a 20-year-old with a 16-year-old is not the same as a 20-year-old and a 10-year-old.
AkAtSUki · F
@Poppies a 16 year old isn't a child. At 16 you become a young adult. In some states it is the age of consent.
I'm talking about grown ppl who mess with children under 16.
UpForItNow · 22-25, F
No, family is family. They need to do their time and rehab. The system needs to play out and we all play our roles.
SW-User
Have they ever hurt anyone? If not then no. Not all pedophiles are bad people. There are pedophiles who recognize that they have a problem and will do what they can to make sure they don't end up hurting anyone
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
@SW-User THANK YOU
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
No, if they’re a criminal yes
Maximusmax · M
@ShaythePanTransMan you can refer to Webster's but that is not what people think
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
@Maximusmax It doesn't matter what people think. That's the definition.
Maximusmax · M
@ShaythePanTransMan it does when you are asking them the question
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
No but I will immediately put him in prison and hopefully get help
SW-User
My relatives are pedophiles. Everyone pretty much knows, but other members of my family hide it so that our family doesn't look bad. So no, we wouldn't disown them.
purplepen · 51-55, F
No, I'd just disown their pedophilia. He/she would have to get treatment and stay away from children.
raysam363 · 31-35, F
Hell yes, I've got nieces to think about and I wouldn't want the pedophile near them.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
I would disown this low life scumbag immediately
