Not to me, I don't think so. Men and women are supposed to work together and shape the world into a better place. I don't see how no roles would be better.

Yes. Despite what seems to be most people preconceived notions, I don’t view it as the idea of letting them choose their own gender or not telling them what they were born as. The concept I see it as, is not forcing them inside gendered barriers. If your male child wants to play with dolls and wear makeup or if he wants to play in the mud and play video games, it should be okay. Same for you daughter. That idea I support. No one should have to do anything just because of the sex they were born.

@MorbidCynic someone said it! Many people think this is all about gender neutral names and bathrooms while in reality it's as simple as that. Being ones true self without limits in expression.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
Yes, it shows that we support individuality and that our minds are not controlled by standards that originate from our mere genitals and steroid hormones.

@basilfawlty89 When talking about gender (as opposed to sex), it's really as question of whether one identifies as masculine or feminine.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@Sharon ah, see I'm not that clued up about proper terms, but I'm learning. Most trans friends I have would say they identify as a man or a women, or non binary.
Sharon · F
@basilfawlty89 Transgender is simply where a person's gender expression (masculine/feminine) doesn't match the one assigned to their sex (male/female). It's complicated by the fact that gender is a social construct and the definitions of masculine and feminine vary with time and culture.
SW-User
It's not possible unless you force it on the child, which is simply child abuse. Gender is determined by their biology. Boys will naturally gravitate towards dump trucks and GI Joe while little girls will prefer Barbie and jewelry making kits. There's no way around this unless you actively prevent the child from accessing masculine/feminine items.
SW-User
@SW-User The exception doesn't make the rule. Your experience is not the norm.
SW-User
@SW-User These aren't exceptions that are being discussed. Studies on the subject have been made. Books have been written based upon those studies. Please take the time to read one. GI Joe's, dump trucks, Barbies, and jewelry making kits are toys that haven't been around for centuries. There is absolutely nothing evolutionary or innate in either gender that will make them gravitate towards any of those toys. It's all solely based upon how, and to whom, they are being marketed towards.
SW-User
@SW-User Sure thing. Tens of thousands of years of marketing. 😂

it aint. my kids turned out fine in bein boys n girls. lot of people aint got a clue about raising kids so they go for all that gender free crap.
TerryCutter · 56-60, M
@Sharon you aint even got kids and neither has the other muppet.
Sharon · F
@TerryCutter LOL!!! I sincerely hope you haven't, at least not any you have contact with.
TerryCutter · 56-60, M
@Sharon ken and barbie aint real people. stop playing with them
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
Seems a bit silly to me.
Raven012 · 22-25, F
Well, i have been treated like a "boy" by my dad and like a "girl" by my mom xD and now i am fine. So i guess a gender role free education would not affect negatively a child
Sharon · F
Yes, it allows the child to develop without being constrained by outdated ideas.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
It cripples your child and perpetuates mental illness
Mmiker · 46-50, M
I think it confuses their identity
Shaman · 26-30
@Mmiker It prevents future identity crises
Mmiker · 46-50, M
Not sure about that. I think it adds to it. @Shaman

There is extensive scientific research on whether the sex behavior differences are caused from biology or social conditioning.

Lying to one's children by saying that those differences don't exist and if they do it's caused by social conditioning is in my opinion not very harmful until they reach puberty.

Once they realize their parents adopted and propagated a lie to them it won't be as harmful to the child as it will be to the parental trust. I am glad that their children will reject them. It's the only way to stop all the pseudo science from being carried generationally.
samanthasmokes · 36-40, F
Young children look for role models to imitate. They aren't looking for complexity or someone's sophisticated understanding of gender freedom. They want to know how to navigate their young world as a boy or a girl. If later, they express interest in the activities or manner of dress of another gender listen to them without judgement. Accept with love their curiosity and interest. If they are old enough to discuss potential drawbacks and advantages in a problem solving way, do it with skill. Books by Faber and Mazlish are great for learning and modeling these skills.

Hope this helps! 🙂
[c=#359E00]not for me. Woman is woman and man is man. Different gender, different nature, different role[/c]
MarijuanaAbuser · 26-30, M
Sounds ridiculous as they arent mentally prepared to make a decision like such
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
Yes, there's little point to forcing gender roles. Kids will be kids.
SW-User
No, you have gender identity for a reason. You can’t change your own biology by changing the way you think. Gender equality is a yes, but gender free makes no sense at all.
Lynda70 · F
@SW-User If the genders had equality, there would be no point differentiating. What do you think is the reason for gender identity?
SW-User
The same reason why you felt the necessity to put a “F” in your profile and I have put a “M”. @Lynda70
BijouPleasurette · 36-40, F
Of course it is. How else do you expect them to grow into equalitarian adults?
BijouPleasurette · 36-40, F
@Sharon Why not? That's ridiculous. It's 2019 now, not 1920.
Sharon · F
@BijouPleasurette I don't know why. You're right, forcing people into roles they're unsuited to just because of their sex is ridiculous.
BijouPleasurette · 36-40, F
@Sharon I didn't realise people still thought like that until I joined this site.
R5000 · 41-45, M
I am glad my woman was raised feminine
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Besr to avoid plant classifications.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Yes. Everyone should do their part equally. Why should women have to cook and clean? Why can't boys?

@IstillmissEP trans people are a reality. Why should a trans woman be forced to be a man when she's not?

[c=#BF0000]I'm not even sure wut those gender roles are 🤔[/c]
Lynda70 · F
Yes, just let them be themselves.
jomsim · 26-30, M
I guess when raising a kid, you have to raise them to cope with how the world will be like in twenty to seventy years time, not how the world is now. I can't imagine gender stereotypes are suddenly going to start growing stronger when the trend is for the opposite.

Not in my opinion

@suchaslife it’s all good. We all have a right to our opinions.

The first generation would have it hard because the parents were not raised that way.

I think people would just be more screwed up in the end.

The household environment and the community will determine if it’s a good idea for each individual.

Just dress them horribly with a stupid multicolor haircut and start pumping them up on hormone supplements asap.
