Is raising a child free of gender roles a good idea?

It's not possible unless you force it on the child, which is simply child abuse. Gender is determined by their biology. Boys will naturally gravitate towards dump trucks and GI Joe while little girls will prefer Barbie and jewelry making kits. There's no way around this unless you actively prevent the child from accessing masculine/feminine items.

Really? I didn't, despite my parents trying to make me play with dolls.

@Sharon The exception doesn't make the rule.

@SW-User Maybe not but nobody's suggesting transgender is more common than cis. The point is, not everyone conforms to their gender assignments or society's expectations - nor should they. Why should I have been forced to play with dolls and jewellery making kits? Isn't that "child abuse"?

@Sharon Transgenderism is a mental illness which develops later on. Small children don't understand anything about sexuality. You aren't going to get me to agree with your false worldview. It's not okay to force tranny shit on kids. Gender is real, it's biologically hard coded, and if you don't like it then go be delusional somewhere else. 🤷‍♂️

@SW-User Your the delusional one if you seriously thing gender (not sex) is biologically hard coded, it's actually just a social construct. I don't expect you to agree, you're far too arrogant for that. When you grow up a bit you might begin to understand. In the meantime, go peddle your hatred and misinformation elsewhere.

@Sharon Gender isn't a social construct. It's directly tied to sex and is a feature of evolution. Read a book and grow a brain. Thank you.

@SW-User You need to get some education and learn the difference between "sex" and "gender". As it is, you're just parading your ignorance. Pity you can't see that.

Children don't just naturally drift to what are considered social norms. What you are suggesting is actually learned behaviour.

I grew up with 2 brothers, as the middle child. I was the one leading the charge with a soldier's helmet and gun. I was every inch a tom boy. The adults tried very hard to get me to play with dolls. All I did with them is have them simulate sexual acts, cut their hair, and pulled them apart. And, I'm straight. There was never any sexual curiosity about women.

@SW-User The exception doesn't make the rule. Your experience is not the norm.

@SW-User These aren't exceptions that are being discussed. Studies on the subject have been made. Books have been written based upon those studies. Please take the time to read one. GI Joe's, dump trucks, Barbies, and jewelry making kits are toys that haven't been around for centuries. There is absolutely nothing evolutionary or innate in either gender that will make them gravitate towards any of those toys. It's all solely based upon how, and to whom, they are being marketed towards.

@SW-User Sure thing. Tens of thousands of years of marketing. 😂
