I don't know. My mum never did that. I also went to a school that had a uniform, so it was not necessary.

I haven't bought new clothes at the beginning of the school year in a couple of years because it doesn't make sense. My daughter doesn't care what other people think either, like others in her group of friends. A few weeks ago, I bought her a two new pairs of sneakers and some clothes online that she wanted. I think it's best to buy clothes when you need them or really want them, not because of marketting or brainwashing.

@morrgin I have to admit that sometimes it's hard though because my daughter wears the same thing over and over so when I take the mandatory first day of school picture, she's wearing something she's worn on the first day of school from previous years (usually the favorite hoodie).
morrgin · F
@zeeva70 as long as they are comfortable and don't mind I dont see a problem.

That's what I tell myself. That's how I get through. Our children teach us, if we allow them to.
kids can be cruel. you dont really wanna send your kids in worn out clothes..
morrgin · F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I wouldn't send her in worn out clothes. I buy clothes when she needs them but seems like there is so much pressure to get an entire new wardrobe just so they can feel accepted which is important too but I feel like they shouldn't have to rely on clothes to get that.
different in Oz. kids have generally got a standard uniform..
they out grow them and they get worn out..

Well if you send your kids to school naked you'll be just asking for trouble.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
So they don't grow out of them?
morrgin · F
@Fangirlsarah1996 true but we can buy clothes for them at any time in the year as they need them or want them.
New school year...new clothes

We homeschool, our kids are in rags. No not really, but we shop at Salvation Army and get used clothes sometimes.
@SW-User well at least they wont get teased for not having the lastest fad!.

@plaguewatcher I buy them pop culture tshirts, so they stay relevant.
morrgin · F
@SW-User it was so much easier with clothes when my daughter was home schooled. We bought her new or used clothes as she needed them.
so they can look good, not walk around with stains or rips in their clothes.

My kids growth spurts happened in the summer and school clothes have deep discounts at the beginning of the school year.
I only bought my girls a few outfits apiece, they already have decent clothes that was bought throughout the year.

Mine has a uniform. She only got one new shirt and pants for the first day and picture day. Everything else still fit.
ItsRichard · M
Why not? They grow every year and don’t you want your kids to look nice?
morrgin · F
@ItsRichard but they grow year round not just at beginning of school year.
ItsRichard · M
@morrgin I got school clothes, clothes for Christmas, Christmas clothes to wear for Christmas, spring clothes and for Easter, and summer clothes.. so I got them threw out the year.

May as well wait til they need them and can actually use them so the start of school seems like the best time
