is christmas less joyful when you haven’t and won’t have children?

i don’t have a big family - just me and my hubby. since my mom passed i feel like christmas is more about childhood joy.
I would say for a lot of people it’s better. They don’t have to shop for ungrateful children. Less stressful.

@MsAnnThropy wow good point. flashbacks of my own childhood (not me - i faked it wel when i hated a gift lol)

I dont have any kids and I still love Christmas, always have.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@Allelse i loved it at ur age too but as i grow older and my parents not really present and brothers are distant... i feel christmas is somewhat lost. it’s just me and my husband. if i didn’t have him i prob wouldn’t even observe it.

As an adult I've done all I can to make sure Christmas for me is simply my wife and I, so my mother dying or my family dying wouldn't make much a difference for me.

@Allelse what kind of awesome things do you do?

Christmas is different for everyone.. It brings back great childhood memories for me.. for some it's very religious.. I like to celebrate it with my grandkids, and to see their eyes light up is my present.. I made them a big winter wonderland to view.. It's a time of peace and relaxation time...

@ChatterinSeuss me either - how long did that take?
ChatterinSeuss · 61-69, M
@NiftyWhite took a month of planning, and another month ordering the pieces and train set

It is definitely more fun. But adult children-who get all excited (not just the gimme thing) ...relatives are fun too...

The joy should come from what one has and cherishes. Remembering the true spirit of what christ-mas really means...

It's certainly larger to you when you have someone that takes joy in it.

we take joy but christmas festivités still seem more about kids. the shopping and preparation the santa stuff the carols — heavily centred on kids@SW-User
