Day 3 update

First night in the dorm, one of the girls was very homesick and upset. According to to the camp counsellor, all the other girls rallied round and did a great job in making her feel included and happier about life. So much so that no one went home early the next day. Lots of proud parents, I hope 😊

Last night was a reversion to the norm. Riot Act was finally read at 2.30am, four hours after lights out, and some of the ring leaders were removed to other rooms 😬 I don't have the full story yet, but when a counsellor texts me euphemistically about my daughter's "lively humour and irrepressible sense of fun" I can only fear the worst 🤦‍♀

Hopefully they will be rather keener on the idea of sleep tonight.

Two more days of calm before the storm 😌

A school summer camp trip can be so different from being at home!! Such fun in many ways! And so instructive.
MommyLucy · 36-40, F
Bless her gymnastics camp is much too fun that sleeping gets difficult! 🙃🦋🤸‍♀
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MommyLucy It can be soooo difficult . . but hopefully a little less so tonight! 😴

It's heartening to hear that youth is still rebellious!
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@ninalanyon I think she regards it more as part of her job description than any conscious act of rebellion . . seven girls in one room, well you'd just be daft to pass up the opportunity of a midnight feast and dancing into the small hours in your pyjamas! They have their own code though and I'm glad it involves looking out for others 🙂

@SunshineGirl But of course, that's the essence of it! rebellion doesn't have to be overtly political.
There will be a time for that too I'm sure as this sentence suggests
They have their own code though and I'm glad it involves looking out for others

Reminds me of my school trips away, far from home!!!
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@HotPizza71 She's less than three miles away from home, but halfway across the globe in her imagination!

@SunshineGirl I know of a family who once fooled their kids into thinking they were miles away from home. They bundled the children into the car late at night, drove around for an hour or 2 until they arrived at the caravan where they were to be staying. In the morning the kids were easily convinced they were in North Wales, gazing across the River Dee to the Wirral - rather than vice versa. They were less than 5 miles from home but really enjoyed their adventure

@ArtieKat The grass is always greener on the other side!

That works with many children for a surprisingly long time. Camping or caravaning is novelty enough, so no need for expensive foreign holidays 🙂
