Adolescence was such an insightful series

We don’t have kids so we don’t have to worry about this generation of little weirdos (well in some respect we do, but we’re not directly responsible for a child) but I hope a lot of parents watch that and have a good takeaway of information from it. I find it sad that some parents seem to have lost that stream of communication with their kids. Just because they sit in their rooms all day on the internet and parents feel they can’t or don’t know how to intervene or even when they need to. Having that open communication with them. Talking about the challenges they face and how they are feeling and allowing them to discuss things that make them and you uncomfortable. IMO it’s brave for anyone to have a child during these times, and makes me wonder if people choosing to be parents actually have the capacity (and the time) to deal with the situations they face in this modern world.

I'm only 1/2 way through it but it was eye opening for an old codger like me. Teenage life isn't like it was 45 years ago.

My daughter watched it and recommended it. She works with kids all day as she's in a university outreach role. But she's on mat leave with her 5 month old daughter. She was saying "Shes never having a phone and social media etc" which is easier said than done.

Brilliantly shot and acted too. Stephen Graham is really good.

@OldBrit hes such a great actor. And tbh the child executed that role sublimely

@OldBrit he portrays the role brilliantly, trying to believe his kid whilst it’d all evolving around him. Episodes 3 & 4 are gonna knock your socks off

I’m not a parent, but the thought of raising a child terrifies me. The series was great at showing the impact it has on the family, almost like their lives are ruined. All they ever saw was their little boy. Also the social media aspect, there needs to be some strict monitoring of children on it, if they should even be allowed at all, in my opinion.

@DHggmu I think we’re beyond the point of stopping these kids from accessing this stuff, so now the concentration has to be about educating them to rights and wrongs (much as we were to our social situations during our childhoods) and teaching them accountability for their actions. I think burying head in sand and hoping for the best is completely ignorant and foolish. And I agree with you, i would also feel terrified to bring up a child now

I pride myself on being someone that my kids aren't afraid to talk to. I never wanted them to think about the trouble theyd be in, i want them to think "I need to tell my mum". For the most part I think they do, and I listen to all the drama with whatsherface at school or what they are anxious about, no matter how small.

I will have to watch it. Had a hard time breaking my nieces and nephews screen addictions that developed before they came to me. They were neglected before and raised by tablets...I have a lot of strong feelings about this.
GLITTER · 36-40, F
@SwampFlower I applaud you for breaking those habits. That couldn’t have been an easy job

It was a good series
Episode 3 was so intense
I do hope parents take the right message from this tbh
Its not about knife crime as some right wingers have suggested. Its about much more than that

I loved it. I watched it with my youngest son. I did not allow my kids to have cell phones until high school and I did not get video games until junior high and they had a set times on which they could play the games. I was pretty strict about that and their homework had to be done too. And I also always and still do have those parental controls on my Wi-Fi.

That time was where my resentment really began to bloom for all humanity and I managed to cut off most my family and hurt lots of people.

Poor times, very poor showing.

Edit: I didn't' realize this was about a show and took it literally. I can't delete my comment, so it stays. ._. I haven't seen the show because I'd rather watch Malcolm and the Middle.

@twistedrope Malcom in the middle is a classic tbh

👌🏼

I don't get the people who said it was boring? I was gripped the whole time, the ending got to me, as parents we would always blame ourselves.
I haven't read this post yet just in case there's any spoilers. I'm on the second episode so I'll come back once I'm done

@HijabaDabbaDoo watch quicker, I’ll be waiting 📝
It was very hard hitting but a good series
