Will acrylic paint on a wood surface rub off on clothes?

I bought barstools for real cheap on FB marketplace.
They need work, which is fine, they were cheap.

Can I use acrylic paint to patch up the chipping wood? or should I get real paint? Problem is, I'm in an apartment and I don't have a balcony.

Also, What about wood stain...for the seat part?
It has scratches but I couldn't pass them up for just 10 bucks apiece.

If it is small touch ups you can use a paint pen for furniture

@MrBrownstone This is what I’d recommend. They have ones specifically to match different wood stains and they work better than you’d think. Picked some up last weekend and now my heirloom secretary desk looks new.

If you are concerned about it, just put some sort of sealant overtop of both the paint and the stain. Water-based polyurethane is easy to apply and doesn't stink up your place.

@FrozenWasteland is water based polyurethae the sealant? What about a stain? what do I get?

@iamnikki yes.

I like the gel stains. Easy to use and not messy.

You are better off using a veneer paint

@SW-User IDK what that is

@iamnikki Look for a can of Minwax at any hardware store there are different varnishes to choose from .One that would match to the color wood you are needing

if its real wood get some dark danish oil. itll look like new. you might need to sand it a bit first. if it's veneer nothing will work. get a dark brown sharpie and color the chipped parts in.
What color are they? What kind of wood?
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@questionWeaver don't know the kind of wood...brown wood lol..
@iamnikki stain and polyurethane would then be your best bet

Paint is difficult to get to adhere to wood surfaces on top of a previous finish

You need something with more resin than paint has ... like polyurethane or marine varnish

@questionWeaver I don't need them to look perfect. first apartment, just needed barstools. Just trying to get rid of the chips and scratces
Acrylic is water based and yes will rub off. Use oil based paints. Wood stains would work great on your stools.
