Will acrylic paint on a wood surface rub off on clothes?

I bought barstools for real cheap on FB marketplace.
They need work, which is fine, they were cheap.

Can I use acrylic paint to patch up the chipping wood? or should I get real paint? Problem is, I'm in an apartment and I don't have a balcony.

Also, What about wood stain...for the seat part?
It has scratches but I couldn't pass them up for just 10 bucks apiece.

If you are concerned about it, just put some sort of sealant overtop of both the paint and the stain. Water-based polyurethane is easy to apply and doesn't stink up your place.

@FrozenWasteland is water based polyurethae the sealant? What about a stain? what do I get?

@iamnikki yes.

I like the gel stains. Easy to use and not messy.
