Will acrylic paint on a wood surface rub off on clothes?

I bought barstools for real cheap on FB marketplace.
They need work, which is fine, they were cheap.

Can I use acrylic paint to patch up the chipping wood? or should I get real paint? Problem is, I'm in an apartment and I don't have a balcony.

Also, What about wood stain...for the seat part?
It has scratches but I couldn't pass them up for just 10 bucks apiece.

What color are they? What kind of wood?

@questionWeaver don't know the kind of wood...brown wood lol..
@iamnikki stain and polyurethane would then be your best bet

Paint is difficult to get to adhere to wood surfaces on top of a previous finish

You need something with more resin than paint has ... like polyurethane or marine varnish
