Family dinner

Nothing triggers my anxiety worse then getting a text from my father saying

Son
We are having our Thanksgiving dinner this Saturday at 1:30pm. Do not be late. Do not arrive early. You and the children are to dress nice in fall colors. There will be no talk of the children's mother or your so called separation. You will also control yourself. You are to leave the house and wait outside if you think your going to have issues. Your mother wants a nice family dinner and you will not ruin it trying to get extra attention by yelling.

I can't wait this is going to be great.

Sorry bro.
Is that your dad really saying that, or is he your mother's messenger?
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@calicuz both
There is nothing quite like parents or a parent totally NOT getting our mental health and / or life struggles and still plowing on as though it's business as usual...

You know what Adam Sander says (actually, he yells it, while on the boat) to the dad of his love (Drew Barrymore) in the movie 50 First Dates? ....Yeah.......Anyways.

I wish you luck and try to not let it get you down.
...I know we can't let this, not affect us.
I wish , *how I wish*, I had a magic wand :D 👍

Yeah fuck all that nonsense. My children would absolutely show up wearing pastels and would be dropped off for a half hour grandparent visit. I wouldn't stay.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Cigarguy101 tough love Man, they don't need to see their grandchildren... and do you really want to expose your kids to that unacceptance.

I know you're split but could you and their mother do your own dinner?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Cigarguy101 and fuck it if they already bought food, serves their judgemental asses right.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed i will have the kids on Thanksgiving. We plan on having a small dinner and have the whole day planned. Their mom will be out of town. The kids are looking forward to seeing their grandparents that day. No matter what I do ill be the bad guy
Macdog24 · 51-55, M
Why do they feel the need to send you this message
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M

SW-User
Is he right, though?

Just don't fuckin go. Tell him you're going to mcdonalds.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@SW-User as cold as my parents are to me they are a complete 180 with my kids. They are fun, loving and great with them. So ill take them and wait outside so i don't cause any problems for my parents
@Cigarguy101 Sounds about right, sadly. I can relate.
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
@SW-User Tell the "old man" there is a famous question he's about to be asked..... "does he want fries with that"? Damn...
MethDozer · M
