Divorce: do I need a lawyer if we have no assets or kids?

So far I know I'll have to wait out the year separated before I can have it done. I rent. He rents. No kids. We have our own vehicles and split the household stuff when he moved out. I just want this done as cheaply and quickly as possible.

No, you do not, you can go to your local courthouse and file without and attorney. I do not know where you live in the world but in the state of Ohio, USA when you go to a courthouse to file for a divorce on your own there is the Legal Aid Society that helps with the filing process free of charge.

Start at your courthouse and if you and your ex-to be are in agreement then it is easy filing and all you have to do is to pay the filing and court fees.

Good luck.
