Yay, they are trying to outlaw smacking here in the UK

I am in full support of this.

About time. Actually I thought it already was!
@ninalanyon I got legal concussions from my Dad and invisible beatings from my child.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Roundandroundwego That is beyond awful.

Even when physical chastisement was legal in the UK hitting anyone hard enough to concuss them would count as Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). Of course it being illegal didn't mean it never happened nor that it was always prosecuted.
Can a parent be charged with a criminal offence?

A parent can be charged with a criminal offence if they harm their child under the following certain offences:

an offence under sections 18 and 20 Offences against the Person Act 1861 (wounding and causing grievous bodily harm)
an offence under section 47 of that act (assault occasioning actual bodily harm)
an offence under section 1 Children and Young Persons Act 1933 (cruelty to persons under 16)
Grievous bodily harm (GBH) means the assault has caused serious physical harm. It does not have to be permanent or dangerous. For example, a broken bone would amount to GBH – in some cases a broken bone might lead to permanent disability but, in others, it might heal without leaving any long-term effects. GBH can also include psychiatric injury or someone passing on an infection, for example through sexual activity.
..
the maximum sentence is five years’ custody.
if the assault is racially or religiously aggravated, the maximum sentence is seven years’ custody
if the assault was committed with intent to cause GBH/wounding then the maximum sentence is life imprisonment

@ninalanyon my brother had it worse. He should know that even back then, people understood it wasn't right.

We raised kids to be better grownups when ass-beatings were more common.
IronHamster · 56-60, M
@Roundandroundwego IDK. In 2020 a bunch of ungrateful spoiled brats used a dead drug addict as an excuse to wreck cities, causing four billion dollars of damage and hundreds of unnecessary deaths. I guarantee none of those kids got the paddle.
@IronHamster crime was way higher in 1970.
IronHamster · 56-60, M
@Roundandroundwego In 1970 they didn't have two dozen high resolution cameras recording on every street corner.

I believe it's already outlawed in Scotland - one of the UK's nations.
Bring back the cane
sexual smacking ?
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Lol. No, that is still okay (as long as you have consent) ;)

So how will I tell my wife how much I missed her all day!! 😃😄🫤
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@WandererTony That's between you and her ;)
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Matt85 ok, that’s not provocation enough to make me spill the beans about who else 😀
MasterLee · 56-60, M
It has destroyed thinking and eliminated consequences. No, not in favor.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
I thought they already had.

@Roundandroundwego
Spanking lead to concussions from Dad
Sounds like he hit the wrong end.
