Online course for babysitting?

My parents thought I should start babysitting. Anyone know of a good online course that can teach you some of the basics?????
Lol, I was doing that from the age of 13... and I had no access to the Internet, so no videos or courses for me.

I learned through cold, hard experience.

@HootyTheNightOwl Sounds terrifying!!!!! 😱 The course was my Mom’s idea but seemed like a good one anyway
Strictextendedfamily · 18-21, F
@KayIsHere did you do ?

@KayIsHere Kay didya ever find a good babysitting course?

Focus yourself on the age group you intend to babysit. Not a good idea to start on infants for you though.

Perhaps tweens, between 8 to 12 years old, would be better. You can relate to them better than even toddlers and don't need to be so carefully watched.
@DeWayfarer at that age I would call an over 21 sitter
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Motherwifenurseandnanny I was on my own after twelve. Heck I had a teen babysitter before that. Admittedly a seventeen year old.

@Motherwifenurseandnanny BTW there's more to babysiting toddlers than just keeping them...

safe, clean , eat and go to bed

They do like to get into things they are not supposed to. Where tweens don't as much.

I was a babysitter's terror as toddler. Learned to swim all by myself at 5. Because the "adult" babysitter didn't keep tabs on me.
Have them respect you and the rules you are given
How old are you
Learn babysitting is actually easy @KayIsHere
KayIsHere · F
@Motherwifenurseandnanny it doesn’t sound easy!!!!!!!! Maybe it’s 1 of those things that’s easy when you know it!!

Anyway I have to take a class and couldn’t find any local 1s that fit my schedule. There are a ton of online ones but so many seem the same!! Hoping to like get some specific recommendations
Shadyglow · F
@Motherwifenurseandnanny The YWCA often teaches this, and most local communities have a program for that, its also all online.
KayIsHere · F
Or just a video I guess, hadn’t thought of that, but taught by like an adult not like tips from other kids
Your mom can advise you also@KayIsHere

@Motherwifenurseandnanny for some stuff and she said the parents of the baby would help too but she still wants me to do a babysitting and CPR class!! 🤷‍♀️ I found a CPR one
manly · 46-50, M
@KayIsHere Kay didya take that CPR class ?
familyfunguy · 56-60, M
Were you necessarily looking for an actual course? If not, I wonder if I could help at all. I wouldn't charge.
KayIsHere · F
@familyfunguy Thnx!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙏 Mom wants an actual course but appreciate the offer and let me think about it!!!! Maybe
Strict4u · 56-60, M
@KayIsHere have you been staying out of trouble?

The Red Cross has an actual course on babysitting and you can become a certified babysitter. They have in person as well as online classes if you live in a small city with no in person classes. Classes are open to young people under 18 as well.
KayIsHere · F
@REMsleep Thnx!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot of their course seems to be CPR focused which makes sense but I managed to find a local in-person class for that! But I like how they certify you and something like that is exactly what I'm after!!!!!
manly · 46-50, M
@KayIsHere And I hope you were able to take that CPR class! 🌞

The only thing you have to do is make sure the baby is still breathing by the time Mommy and daddy come back home.
RadioDust · 36-40, M
I would say google is your best friend or look for online books about caring for young children
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
Scary now days leaving someone with kids
Shadyglow · F
@2ndtimeguy why's that?

huh??

Babysitters aren't "someone" They are your neighbors kid

GROW UP
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
@Shadyglow read her post it says nothing about watching friends or neighbors kids!
Shadyglow · F
@2ndtimeguy more reason to ignore it

LEAVE THE KIDS (the teens trying to grow up) ALONE!!!!!!!!
Strict4u · 56-60, M
Do you still get spanked or have they stopped now?
KayIsHere · F
@Strict4u would rather answer that privately
Strict4u · 56-60, M
@KayIsHere can I message you
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M

You need to really know what you’re doing as you are looking after young lives.
