Like most 'panics' there are multiple reasons.
One, many women do not work in the fields or at home. It's not always feasible to leave a board meeting to nurse. Or an assembly line. Or waitressing.
By far, most employers do not provide "nurseries" where you can step out to feed.
Yes, there are breast pumps, etc, to stockpile breast milk, but they are usually not free and some people don't have money. Discussing whether they should have procreated when they have no money is a moot point if they already have a baby.
If the working world was more cooperative with nursing mothers, there might not be such alarm.
The world hasn't actually changed much in some ways. Once upon a time, "wet nurses" who were already lactating could be hired to feed a baby. Today it's formula.
And there are few hotter flash points than not being able to feed your baby.

@Mamapolo2016 MUCH more serious and answer than my semi-joking question deserved, but very thorough.

Some women can’t breast feed. I did for only three days, and it was the most beautiful bonding experience, but alas the pain was so bad that I could not sleep, or lay down. Now I look back, I think I should have expressed some milk, but no one told me, and I didn’t know. I was still in the hospital, so you’d think a nurse could have educated me, but this was over 40-years ago, so no internet or pregnancy classes like today.

I thought the formulas were recalled??
@DearAmbellina2113 Recalled because babies died Similac shut a plant down.
If the Republicans are whining something must have cut into a Corporations profit margin. It's the only time Republican Politicians go to work.

Not all babies are able to breastfeed for a number of reasons.

@Moosepantspatty I know, but that does raise a question which I have no idea how to answer: IF a baby can suckle from a bottle, why would it not be able to suckle from a nipple? (I know some babies are allergic, have medical problems, etc., so they need a special formula, but that wouldn't keep them from physically suckling, right?)

@ChipmunkErnie bottle nipples arr structurally very different than womens nipples. They also come in different sizes, whereas some babies are too small to latch. Than beyond that, every womans supply is different, and without guidance, often women do not produce enough milk on their own to provide for their baby entirely on their own.

Dang, SO serious. It was meant as a light-hearted joke about SW's favorite topic, boobies.

@ChipmunkErnie it didn't. It caused a lot of tummy aches, ear aches, and sinus issues.
