“Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.”

After having adopted TWO cats, (one whom I rescued from a former client), I discovered that I utterly LOVE them, while at the same time I am allergic as hell to them. So...the love had a steep price.

I am also allergic to SOME dogs!!! But I knew that, and have had a long and lovely journey down the dog road with my Bichon-poo, cocker-poo, Maltese, and a Shih-Tzu rescue and ALL her puppies. All of those dogs have fur comprised of HAIR instead of the normal fur.

I miss my dogs terribly...but thank God that is blunted with the knowledge that I can't afford to take care of a dog anymore.

I would love to have a small poodle. They are intelligent, easiest dog to housebreak and they can find ways to entertain themselves. They also never shed their fur, it has to be clipped off. The grooming which is several times a year is expensive. Probably not as expensive as replacing your carpeting or having to have it cleaned more often than usual though.

Both. Here's the real difference.
They actually both know their own names when called.
The dog is always looking for approval and attention. You're as much a companion to him as he is to you.
Cats, on the other hand, recognize their name. If you watch, they might twist an ear at most, but to them, you're actually just another cat. They don't disseminate between types of animals. When they want attention from you, they'll come and get it. If they actually respond to having their name called, you just hit them in a good moment and they say to themselves, yeah, well, why the hell not? And they might wander over to you. It's the responsiveness that makes the world difference between the two. By the way, cats are just as smart as dogs. They just don't respond to the words they do understand.
