Sort of a dividing point in my teenage years. Pre accident I was still a latchkey kid. After that neither parent could handle the injury.
So I had to live with my half brother and his wife. I was in a caste for six months and heavily drugged because of the pins in my knee. Finished highschool with them. In a totally different county. Dad still paid the child support. Alimony was dropped I believe. I did take on a job after I healed up.
Those two years were probably what saved me. I had more of a normal upbringing. At least I graduated highschool because of them.

They were my parents - not like today's parents wanting to be best friends

They were not so bad, my mom would get on me about smoking and it eventually worked

Loving, caring, dedicated and very strict, too. 💜

mom was strict but dad was soft with me

My dad had left our family at that point

They were great. They loved my girlfriend and trusted us to be together. They gave me freedom, but also expected me to obey their rules and treat all people with respect. I'm sure they worried, but they even let me spend a lot of time alone in a cypress swamp, fishing and enjoying nature. They quietly supported all of my athletic events.

They were not much different from when I was a kid.

My dad was dead and my Mom was just trying to get by. Often absent, kinda gave up parenting in any meaningful way. She had several boyfriends but ended up with a partner that was really great and I loved him.

I was going to select a thumbs up emoji for your comment but it may have looked out of place. It was because of your mom's finding of a great guy and your love for him... 👍🏻

My mom worked and my dad was detached from me.

My dad drank all the time and my mom tend to take on his personality cause she had to put up with his drinking. My mom was awesome and I will always love her. Good bit of arguing went on in the house.

Ok, I guess... 🤷🏻♀

They were worn down - especially my mother. They already had 36 yrs of raising kids when I turned 13 and I was no prize.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I avoided them as much as I could. My father was the worst human being I have ever known and my mother was very seriously mentally-ill.
Yulianna · 26-30, F
parents, i guess... i had only one set so couldn't compare...
ZaneTrain · 18-21, M
Supportive, a little overprotective sometimes but not in a bad way. Considering my parents divorced when I was little, I think I had it pretty good. They did their best and my teen years were relatively trouble free.
Absentee mostly

Overall, in hindsight and by today's standards, amazingly loose reins. The high school was in another town; I was involved in a multitude of after school, extra-curriculum activities as well as working for two weekly newspapers. I very seldom made the last bus home and relied on friends driving or, mostly, hitchhiking which was much more common then, but still somewhat risky. A lot of evenings covering high school sports. My away from home time was extensive with few questions asked and included a lot more time in pool halls and just cruising than they probably would have been happy about.
My mother was an elementary school teacher, and generally very supportive as long as the grades were there. Otoh, my father was still very rooted in the 19th Century and had some out-dated views, particularly on rights-of-passage issues. The primary one being getting a driver's license. He didn't get to drive -- heck, autos didn't even exist in great amounts -- until he was in his 20's and he didn't think a person should get one until 21. It was a big issue with my older brother. I chose to accept and respect his opinion as the lack of one, and their long leash, was allowing me to do practically everything I wished. And as it turned out, I never got a driver's license until age 22 when I needed one for a job, even though I had to take and pass driver's education in high school.

They were devoted loving parents, like always. They both worked hard in factories partly to pay for most of my college education. Sometimes my mom accused me of "talking back" when I thought I was only "having a discussion," but I guess that's what being a teenager is all about.

Old. Seriously, they were retired by the time I was a teen. Worn out after raising my brothers apparently, so I was left to my own ungrateful, dumbass devices...
