my grandmother passed down a letter to the whole family, we all got a copy of it. basically telling us to stick together and cherish each other. she died a few days after writing it.

I have the letter my father wrote to my grandfather, asking for my mother's hand in marriage. I also have the letter from my grandfather, granting permission for them to marry. Times change, don't they?

I don't have anything like that. That makes me think I should give some things to my son so he has something when I am gone.
Wiseacre · F
@SlippingAway yes!

in the 1970's as a teen i helped my grandfather in his siding business. i have a can of white painted nails we used when installing ALUMINUM siding, before vinyl siding was invented. and a few of his other hand tools.

A trumpet has been in my family since my dad played it starting when he was 13. He gave it to me and I played it a few years in school. Now my son has been playing it a couple years.

Who raised u…and did u have sibs?@samueltyler2
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Wiseacre my dad remarried when i was 16, so I had a stepmother who did keep us together, and a sister 5 years older than me. He was underinsured, so we lived on my stepmother's teacher salary and my sister was working so chipped in. I worked after school to earn spending money, and I lived at home, and was on the equivalent of full scholarship.

I inherited everything they owned, but no sentimentalities.
