Are you aware of your chances of being attacked by a bear ?

Not zero any more especially since one strayed up here in my city and went into a yard behind the house. The homeowner got called away from camping and there were police and deputies and wildlife game rangers in her back yard plus news people. The bear got scared and climbed up into a really tall tree. They tried to lure the bear down with food but he wasn't having it. So they shot him with dart gun thinking he would get drowsy and come down. They ended up euthanizing him instead saying he was a danger to residents and if he kept going he would have to cross the interstate highway about a mile away. and it could cause a bad accident. Nobody was happy about them killing the bear. It was our city’s first bear sighting and they killed it.

Bears are extremely common around here (odds of seeing one are quite good). However, unless you provoke one or get between it and it's cubs, your chances of getting attacked is less than 5% (unless you're disguised as or smell like a garbage can - then your chances are around 85%). They don't really care about humans (we are not worth their time), but they LOVE our food (KFC and pizza are among their favorites).
Bears are quite smart. Unless one locks their doors, bears can (and do) get inside closed cars and houses.

Yes. I tend to notice that there was a bear just a little bit after they disappear. They're not scaring me. Just eating berries.
