Is it just as important?

It is just as important to teach your child how to sign their name as it is to tie their shoes?
Secretsmile · 51-55, F
My mom taught me to read before I went to school
Clarity2024 · 31-35, F
@Secretsmile I never said anything about reading.
Lilnonames · F
@Clarity2024 have to read before you write
Clarity2024 · 31-35, F
@Lilnonames I do that.
They learn that in school.
Clarity2024 · 31-35, F
@Spoiledbrat they used to.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Plenty of footwear doesn't need tying at all. So theoretically you could get by just fine never learning to tie shoes. Thus signing your name wins by default in most modern societies

@MethDozer I'm in the camp that if everything is covered then I don't care. As a customer I'm not concerned how someone dresses, only that I'm getting the services/products that I'm paying for.

@ViciDraco Looking shabby and disheveled doesn't inspire confidence in the services. Like if you can't even dress yourself, it makes it hard to trust your ability in more complex areas and to details.

Curiosity got the best of me and I googled.
Yes, velcro work boots exist. They look exactly as one might imagine, ugly as sin.
Are you my mom?

You should definately try to teach them how to do both at the earliest opprotunity.
Clarity2024 · 31-35, F
@Dignaga it’s their parent’s job lol
Tie your shoes is far more important than signing their name. Why would this be a question?
@Clarity2024 signature can be anything in legal terms
Clarity2024 · 31-35, F
@Kevinthegreat for the uneducated.
@Clarity2024 this is boomer energy tbh
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
I think potty training comes first
Casheyane · 31-35, F
Many things are just as important. It's always the smallest things that end up having the biggest impact. So try your best to not miss out.
They can't legally sign anything until the age of majority anyway - so, there's no rush to deal with signatures.

I would go further than both. Would teach any of the boys to tie a full and half Windsor tie knots.

Dad only taught me the half Windsor knot. Full Windsor I learned on my own.

Dad knew many types of knots. Don't know why he didn't teach me the full Windsor knot.

Then teach them never to sign anything they don’t understand
Clarity2024 · 31-35, F
@meJess so tell them to never buy a car or a house? That makes sense.
meJess · F
@Clarity2024 if you don’t understand it get someone to advise you before you sign. Or you can complain how you didn’t understand when it’s too late of course
Technically more important. I wore "mary janes" with my uniform, but Mom made sure I could read and sign my name before kindergarten.
Well, they should know each.

I agree with you.
