Is it just as important?

It is just as important to teach your child how to sign their name as it is to tie their shoes?

Plenty of footwear doesn't need tying at all. So theoretically you could get by just fine never learning to tie shoes. Thus signing your name wins by default in most modern societies

@ViciDraco Dude if you show up to work in work boots without laces and Velcro I'm sending you home.

@MethDozer First of all, is there a potential safety issue with velcro or zip-up boots? If so I'll grant you that, if not then you may wish to question the desire to conform like that.

Second of all, plenty of jobs don't require work boots. There are plenty of slip on loafers for office settings. People wear whatever they want in the office I work for, including things like sandals and flip flops. Though, I will admit one of the flip flop guys is kind of annoying. He's got a habit of getting up and placing when waiting for computer to compile so you just hear that sound going up and down the aisle...

@ViciDraco Yes they do present an issue in a labor environment. Which is why grown up shoelaces are required. There's a reason work boots don't have velcro over shoe laces. This is work not romper room

Sandles and flip flops have no place in any work environment aside from lifeguard.

@MethDozer Again, I'll grant you safety reasons. Everything else has options.

@ViciDraco anyone wearing pajamas or flip flops to work needs to grow up and learn to dress themselves. Some of the office chicks try to pull this garbage and it blows the mind they think it is acceptable to be I. Front of customers like that.

@MethDozer I'm in the camp that if everything is covered then I don't care. As a customer I'm not concerned how someone dresses, only that I'm getting the services/products that I'm paying for.
MethDozer · M
@ViciDraco Looking shabby and disheveled doesn't inspire confidence in the services. Like if you can't even dress yourself, it makes it hard to trust your ability in more complex areas and to details.

Curiosity got the best of me and I googled.
Yes, velcro work boots exist. They look exactly as one might imagine, ugly as sin.
