Do you have narcissistic family members?

It's been 12 years since I moved out of that toxic environment, I remember her saying. Oh you will be back begging because you will never manage a life on your own.
12 years and counting! Let her control my other siblings and live through them.
I always find ways to respect her but also stay the hell far away as possible.

I've decided long ago, there is something wrong with her.... when she started competing with me. That's disgusting no mother should compete with her own daughter.

I'm glad you found your way out and never looked back.

Why would you think she deserves respect? Simply because she gave birth to you doesn't automatically entitle her to respect if she's been a toxic mother.

And yes, I have narcissistic and toxic family members. I've cut them out of my life.
@cherokeepatti Oh yeah may he RIP
He was a very loving kind father.
Family members and friends always tell her that my father loved me and she was very jealous. She also made sure to speak ill of him when it suits her.

@RadiantRuby I'm glad you see that Patti's right.

Your mother created an entire scenario in her head because she couldn't accept the reality of the situation. Her jealousy over your relationship with your father made/makes her lash out at you and try to hurt you. She's attempting to make you pay for the fact that he moved on from her. She might even see him when she sees you, reminding her of her failure, which she can't accept. Only she knows what's going on in that screwy head of hers. After so many years being divorced, it takes a very small, mean-spirited, and selfish person to continue to speak ill of the dead. Tells me she never got over and moved on from the divorce.

Honestly, that's a woman you should cut out of your life. If you can't because of your siblings, have as little contact as possible with her. She's never going to change and will always try to find ways to hurt you. She's stuck in a pattern of denial and refuses to take any accountability for it. Victim mentality.
@SW-User Thank you everything you said made perfect sense. I will be reading it again.
A very good way you put it

Yes several and it’s no fun being around any of them. I don’t go around them now. Always having to second-guess every single thing they say or do and they’ll try their best to manipulate to get you to do or give them something. But be damned if I asked for any little thing no matter how rarely.
@cherokeepatti Absolutely narcissist are very selfish.
They wait for that day when you need them just to disappoint you.

@RadiantRuby You don’t know how much I did for one sister and then when I needed my car jumped i called her husband and he came out and jumped it for me where I worked. She was livid over it and a couple of days later called me up and told me about it. But she had no qualms about showing up at lunch time when she was in town and getting a free lunch at m house and many other things.
@cherokeepatti She's very ungrateful! Did you end up stop being generous with her after that?

I have an acquaintance who is constantly competing with her daughter for attention. And she never misses an opportunity to document it on Facebook. Botox, lifts, tucks, micro skirts, comments... It's incredibly uncomfortable being around her, but she insists on sticking herself in the middle of every social occasion.
@Northwest I feel sorry for that young lady, I hope someone steps up and tells her that her behavior is horrible. Maybe someone should send anonymous letter to Dr.phil 😆
My oldest brother is kind of a dick, but I love his family. His wife is wonderful. His two boys my nephews are great and his daughter my 10 year old niece is like one of my best friends. She’s totally awesome.
@DarkHeaven I understand the narcissist can give birth to a kind loving soul. I'm glad you enjoy time with your niece.
@RadiantRuby she’s so cool. love her to pieces.

My mom...I know she didn't choose to be that way, but it brought down my self identity to almost zero. I feel inhuman Sometimes. She'd yell at me and criticize EVERY thing I did, nearly daily. It made me have extreme self doubt into adulthood. If I even disagree with anything she says, she'll say, 'What you think you're PERFECT?' OR, Do you want me to DIE then????. Have some RESPECT FOR YOUR MOTHER. (Over saying that you didn't do something that she said you did)

@Coralmist My blanket response to all narcissists:

@Coralmist That rings a bell, with the guilt trip followed by an insult.
🤗 I hope you find ways to heal
Be there for your self!

Yes my mum. In the end after being disowned yet again when she didn't get her way I moved far away. The unbelievable things she did to me are very shocking. When I joined Facebook old school friends who had ceased contact with me years ago told me that when they rang or came to the door she told them I didn't want anything more to do with them. The only way to deal with these people us to completely cut them off.

I don't know, all I know something is wrong here. Definitely nowhere close to stories people share about gaslighting, manipulation, lying, disregard for privacy, physical abuse etc. but something unhealthy lingers in the air. I know for one thing that I have a sadistic family member. They don't keep it a secret. Whether that is combined with something else, I don't know.

So sorry your mom is a troublemaker. I am glad you escaped and thrived!

My mom is fine. My dad is a little annoying, though. He thinks he always right, and can be insensitive. But I have not had to live with him for 29 years! And I only talk to him about once a month.
@JoyfulSilence That's my favorite part about being an adult.
Having your own life. I'm glad your mother was good. No wonder why your a perfect gentleman
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@RadiantRuby

Yeah. I listen to my parents' advice, and then do whatever I want! LOL!

If I need advice, I come on here, instead!

Ha ha. Me, a gentleman?

I suppress a lot of non-gentlemanly stuff on here, because I want ladies to like me. 😁

The phrase is "ladies and gentlemen." Not ladies and jerks! LOL!

Ladies have blocked me on here! But that is OK. Half are nutcases, anyway. The rest are too prudish!
Lilliesandlight · 41-45, F
@Lilliesandlight Sorry hope it's not too difficult for you to live with him
Lilliesandlight · 41-45, F
@RadiantRuby I've had to learn to be very tolerant. And self reliant.
Lilliesandlight · 41-45, F
@AlyAngel that's awful. I'm sorry 😔
@AlyAngel 🖤
One of my sisters. I’ve really been seeing it in the last seven years.
@bijouxbroussard Sorry to hear that. I'm glad atleast you are aware. I haven't discovered about narcissistic abusive till I moved out. There were times I blamed myself for her behavior
Sounds like my mother-in-law! 😤
SW-User
Yes my Mom was she told me no one would ever love me and just wait I'll be a horrible mother just wait and see and she also told me that I was worth less than my step father because he would be around when I was gone and out of the house. Yes she was a real peach
SW-User
@SW-User Side note she divorced my step father after both my sister and I were out of the house because he turned the abuse on her. He didn't have his emotional and phsyical punching bags any more so no he wasn't around after we left :)
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
My aunt was. Just that was a major amount of damage.
@uncalled4 Sorry to hear that!
It does effect you , did you end up cutting her off?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@RadiantRuby She kinda cut us off after a few efforts to mend fences, then she passed. It was what it was.
