Is it true what the old folks say "What you don't know can't hurt"?

I do believe what you don't know can hurt or will eventually. One example is..
If everyone is talking behind your back because your spouse is cheating on you...
1. They could possibly give you a disease.

In my experience, it hurts a lot more when you find out that someone who you thought was a friend is talking about you behind your back.

@SubstantialKick Yes, I have had this done many times.
Not true even slightly.
Ignorance can be lethal - literally one can die due to not knowing countless things.
Or one can just suffer unnecessarily.

Mostly not true... I'd say 99% of the time it's the more you know, the better off you will be.

Ask any blind person who broke his leg stepping off a ledge he didn't know was there.
Depends entirely on the subject. In most cases the saying "knowledge is power" is more accurate.

Perhaps in some cases. For some reason I’m imagining someone eating a cannibals’ favorite dish but not knowing that what they’re eating is human flesh.

Well, I'm an "old folk" and I don't say it.

People used to not believe in germs. That hurt millions.
